Hongkongers
Hongkongers (), also known as Hong Kongers, Hong Kongese, Hongkongese, Hong Kong citizens and Hong Kong people, typically refers to residents of the territory of Hong Kong; although may also refer to others who were born and/or raised in the territory. The earliest inhabitants of Hong Kong are indigenous villagers, who have lived in the area since before British colonization. The majority of Hongkongers today are descended from Han Chinese migrants from mainland China, most of whom are Cantonese and trace their ancestral home to the province of Guangdong. However, the territory also holds other Han Chinese subgroups including the Hakka, Hoklo, Teochew (Chiuchow), Shanghainese, Sichuanese and Taiwanese. Meanwhile, non-Han Chinese Hongkongers such as the British, Filipinos, Indonesians, South Asians and Vietnamese also make up six per cent of Hong Kong's population. Davi Cheng
Davi Cheng is artist and graphic designer from Hong Kong who combines traditional methods of drawing and painting with advanced digital design techniques. Biography Davi Cheng was born in Hong Kong into a Protestant extended family. Her great-grandfather had converted to Christianity in 1896 at the First Congregational Church in Territorial Arizona while working there as a laborer. He returned to China in 1902 to evangelize his family in China. Her grandfather never set foot in the United States. Cheng family of six immigrated to the United States in 1971 under her father's immigration visa, when she was 14 years old. Cheng converted to Judaism in 1997. Cheng earned a B.A. in Biological Sciences from University of California, Berkeley with the intention of pursuing a career in the medical field. Adam Cheng Siu-chow (born 24 February 1947) is a Hong Kong TVB actor and Cantopop singer. Career Cheng started his career in the 1970s, where he gained a reputation for playing the lead roles in TVB ''Wuxia'' drama series based on the works of Louis Cha and Gu Long, such as ''The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber'' and '' Chor Lau Heung''. Sir Catchick Paul Chater ( hy, Փոլ Չաթեր; ; 8 September 1846 – 27 May 1926) was a prominent British businessman of Armenian descent in colonial Hong Kong, whose family roots were in Calcutta, India. Biography Early life Chater was born Khachik Pogose Astwachatoor ( hy, Խաչիկ Պօղոս Աստուածատուրեան) in Calcutta, British India, one of thirteen offspring of Armenian parents Miriam and Chater Paul Chater. His father was a member of the Indian civil service. Chater was orphaned at the age of seven, and he gained entry into the La Martiniere College in Calcutta on a scholarship. William Chang Suk-ping ( zh, 張叔平; born 12 November 1953) is a Hong Kong production designer, costume designer and film editor. Along with cinematographer Christopher Doyle, Chang is an important collaborator with Hong Kong film director Wong Kar-wai. He has also collaborated with directors such as Stanley Kwan, Patrick Tam, Yim Ho, Tsui Hark, Jiang Wen and Johnnie To. He is of Shanghainese ancestry. Baodiao movement (, literally ''Defend the Diaoyu Islands movement'') is a social movement originating among Republic of China students in the United States in the 1970s, and more recently expressed in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan that asserts Chinese sovereignty over the Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands. David Chan Yuk-cheung (; 14 October 1950 – 26 September 1996) was born in Chaoyang, Guangdong, China. He was a prominent leader of the Baodiao movement in Hong Kong. The movement advocates Chinese sovereignty over the Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands in the Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands dispute between China and Japan. Biography Being a high school graduate from King's College, Hong Kong, David Chan Yuk-cheung obtained a bachelor's degree from the University of Hong Kong and a master's degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
