Lavender Cheung
Lavender Cheung (張宏艷) (born 1970 in Beijing, China) is a former news anchor of Cable TV Hong Kong of Hong Kong. Cheung graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and she received Monbusho Scholarship from Japanese Government in 1995. She then attended Keio University in Japan for a master's degree in Law, majored in Political Studies. Cheung joined Cable News Hong Kong in 1993 and left in 1995 to complete her studies in Japan. During her stay in Japan, she worked as Japanese Correspondent for Cable TV. She returned to Cable TV in 1998 and was promoted to Senior Anchor and then Chief Anchor in i-Cable News. She resigned from Cable TV in 2009 and changed to work as corporate promotion in the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce. Jimmy Lai
Lai Chee-ying ( zh, link=no, t=黎智英, born 8 December 1947), also known as Jimmy Lai, is a Hong Kong busniessman and a politician. He founded Giordano, an Asian clothing retailer, Next Digital (formerly Next Media), a Hong Kong-listed media company, and the popular newspaper ''Apple Daily''. He is one of the main contributors to the pro-democracy camp, especially to the Democratic Party. Although he is known as a Hong Kong political figure, he has been a UK national since 1996. Lai is also an art collector. A prominent critic of the Chinese Communist Party, Lai was arrested on 10 August 2020 by the Hong Kong police on charges of violating the territory's new national security law, an action which prompted widespread criticism. Lai was allowed bail on 12 August, but on 3 December, Lai was accused of fraud and his bail was revoked. The court decided to jail Lai until April 2021, marking the first time Lai has been detained. William Tarrant
William Tarrant (died 26 January 1872; ) was a civil servant and newspaper editor in British Hong Kong. He served as Inspector of Land and Roads and subsequently Registrar of Deeds in the Hong Kong colonial administration from 1842 to 1847, but was removed from office and barred from public service owing to allegations he had raised against Colonial Secretary William Caine, which an internal government inquiry held to be fabricated. Tarrant then began a new career in journalism, purchasing the '' Friend of China'' newspaper in 1850. He became prominently involved in a scandal involving multiple senior government officers, the Caldwell affair, in 1857, and was ultimately found guilty of libel and imprisoned in 1859. He left the colony after his release in 1860, and made two attempts over the course of the 1860s to restart the ''Friend of China'' in Guangzhou and Shanghai, each proving abortive. Knife Attack On Kevin Lau
Kevin Lau (), former editor-in-chief of the Hong Kong daily newspaper ''Ming Pao'', was attacked in the morning of 26 February 2014 as he was getting out of his car in Lei King Wan, Hong Kong by two men who were waiting for him. Lau suffered stab wounds to his back and legs. He was rushed to a hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. The police and most commentators agree that it was a triad-style attack aimed at maiming without killing. While pro-establishment figures denied links between the attack and assaults on press freedom, local journalists and the local press saw the attack as part of a longstanding and crushing trend in which mainland Chinese interests seek to rein in Hong Kong's vibrant and still free press. Willy Wo-Lap Lam
Willy Wo-Lap Lam (born 1952; ) is a Hong Kong journalist, political scientist, and commentator on Chinese politics. He is currently a Jamestown Foundation fellow and an adjunct professor at the Centre for China Studies, Chinese University of Hong Kong. He holds a BA from University of Hong Kong obtained in 1974, an MA from University of Minnesota obtained in 1978 and a PhD in Political Economy from Wuhan University obtained in 2002. Lam worked for the ''South China Morning Post'' until 2000. He was the paper's Beijing correspondent until the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests, and was China editor during the 1997 handover of Hong Kong. In 1995, he was described as the "quintessential China watcher"; CNN called him "one of the most plugged-in observers of Chinese politics in the world" in 1999. Jeffrey James is an Australian television news, business and current affairs anchor. During 2007 and 2008 he presented for international business news network CNBC Asia where he hosted Squawk Australia from the channel's new studio centre in Sydney. The programme was broadcast worldwide each weekday morning.
