The 1979–80 Honduran Liga Nacional season was the 14th edition of the Honduran Liga Nacional. The format of the tournament remained the same as the previous season. C.D. Marathón won the title after defeating Universidad in the finals. Both teams qualified to the 1980 CONCACAF Champions' Cup. Additionally, Marathón, Universidad, C.D. Broncos and C.D. Salvador Bernárdez
Salvador Bernárdez (6 January 1954 – 18 July 2011) was a Honduran international football midfielder. Club career Nicknamed ''Pichini'' and ''Pólvora'', Bernárdez played his entire career for F.C. Motagua in the Honduran league. He was the Honduran league's top goalscorer in the 1978/79 season and still is the 9th best scorer for Motagua of all time with 36 goals. International career Bernárdez has represented Honduras in 9 1982 FIFA World Cup qualification matches, helping them to qualify for their first World Cup Finals tournament. Oscar or Oskar is a masculine given name of Irish origin. Club Deportivo Olimpia is a professional Honduran football club based in Tegucigalpa, Francisco Morazán. The club is the nation's most successful team both in the domestic league and in international club competitions. History Olimpia was founded as a baseball club on June 12, 1912, by Héctor Pineda Ugarte, Carlos Bram, Arturo Bram, Enrique Buik, Santiago Buik, Miguel Sanchez, Samuel Inestrosa Gómez, and Ramón Field. In 1917, it also became a football team. C.D. Olimpia is the most successful football team in Honduras, having won 31 domestic league titles since it was founded in 1912, the latest being the 2019–20 Apertura & Clausura season.
