Vertigo (DC Comics)
Vertigo Comics, also known as DC Vertigo or simply Vertigo, was an imprint of American comic book publisher DC Comics started by editor Karen Berger in 1993. Vertigo's purpose was to publish comics with adult content, such as nudity, drug use, profanity, and graphic violence, that did not fit the restrictions of DC's main line, thus allowing more creative freedom. Its titles consisted of company-owned comics set in the DC Universe, such as '' The Sandman'' and ''Hellblazer'', and creator-owned works, such as ''Preacher'', '' Y: The Last Man'' and ''Fables''. The Vertigo branding was retired in 2020, and most of its library transitioned to DC Black Label. Andy Diggle
Andy Diggle is a British comic book writer and former editor of the weekly anthology series '' 2000 AD''. He is best known for his work on ''Adam Strange'' and ''Green Arrow'' for DC Comics as well as his creator-owned series '' The Losers'' and a run on ''Hellblazer'' for DC's Vertigo imprint, and for his stints on '' Thunderbolts'' and '' Daredevil'' at Marvel. Simon Oliver
Simon Oliver is a British-American comic book writer, best known for his creator-owned series '' The Exterminators'' and '' FBP: Federal Bureau of Physics'', published under DC Comics' Vertigo imprint. Career Simon Oliver was born in the United Kingdom but left the country in the early 90s. After traveling around the world for several years, he settled in Los Angeles, working in the film industry, mostly as a camera assistant on TV shows such as '' Once and Again'' and '' Joan of Arcadia''. ''The Trenchcoat Brigade'' is a four-issue comic book limited series that was published in 1999 as a part of DC Comics' Vertigo imprint, featuring several mystic DC Universe characters. The title references an offhand joke used by John Constantine in the earlier ''Books of Magic'' series to label a loose affiliation of mystics including himself, Phantom Stranger, Doctor Occult, and Mister E who share a preference for trenchcoats as their outdoor wear (Constantine was knowingly paraphrasing the title of Alfred, Lord Tennyson's famous "The Charge of the Light Brigade", about a reckless military event). Mat Johnson
Mat Johnson (born August 19, 1970 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American fiction writer who works in both prose and the comics format. In 2007, he was named the first USA James Baldwin Fellow by United States Artists. Life and career Johnson was born and raised in the Germantown and Mount Airy communities in Philadelphia. His mother is African-American and his father is Irish Catholic. He attended Greene Street Friends School, West Chester University, University of Wales, Swansea, and ultimately received his B.A. from Earlham College. In 1993 he was awarded a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship. Johnson received his M.F.A. from Columbia University School of the Arts in 1999. Johnson has taught at Rutgers University, Columbia University, Bard College, and ''The Callaloo Journal'' Writers Retreat. John Ney Rieber
John Ney Rieber is an American comic book writer. Career John Ney Rieber's first professional work in comics was scripting over the finished pages of the graphic novel ''Tell Me, Dark'', conceived by his late friend and mentor Karl Edward Wagner and artist Kent Williams. Initially, Williams approached Wagner with five pages of art asking him to write a story around that. Wagner agreed, and the pair signed a contract with DC Comics to release an 80-page hardcover graphic novel. At the beginning of production, the book's initial editor Karen Berger took an extended maternity leave. Peter Hogan is an English writer and comics writer, best known for ''Resident Alien'', which he co-created with artist Steve Parkhouse. Heartland (comics)
''Heartland'' is a comic book one-shot published by the Vertigo imprint of DC Comics in March 1997. It was written by Garth Ennis and illustrated by Steve Dillon. It is a spin-off from the ''Hellblazer'' comic book series, and features the character of Kit Ryan, a longtime supporting character in that series. Although ''Heartland'' is technically a spin-off of ''Hellblazer'', the central character of that series, John Constantine, makes no appearance.
