List Of Florida State League Champions
The Florida State League of Minor League Baseball is a Single-A baseball league in the United States. The league was founded in 1919. A league champion is determined at the end of each season. Champions have been determined by postseason playoffs, winning the regular season pennant, or being declared champion by the league office. Off and on (1919–28, 1936–41, and 1946–68), the league recognized pennant winners and/or playoff winners as league champions. In 2019, the first-half and second-half winners in each division (North and South) competed in a best-of-three series to determine division champions. Then, the North and South division winners played a best-of-five series to determine a league champion. Florida State League
The Florida State League (FSL) is a Minor League Baseball league based in the state of Florida. Having been classified at various levels throughout its existence, it operated at Class A-Advanced from 1990 until its demotion to Single-A following Major League Baseball's 2021 reorganization of the minor leagues. The league temporarily operated for the 2021 season as the Low-A Southeast before reassuming its original moniker in 2022. Each league member is affiliated with a Major League Baseball (MLB) team, and most play in their affiliate's spring training facility. History The league originated in 1919 with teams in Bartow, Bradenton, Lakeland, Orlando, Sanford, and Tampa, Florida. The league closed down in 1928 and resumed play in 1936. Cocoa Astros
The Cocoa Astros were a professional minor league baseball team in the Florida State League (FSL), as a Class A affiliate with the Houston Astros from 1965–72 and 1977. The team played at the Astros' spring training facility. The Cocoa FSL team was first known as the Cocoa Indians (1951–58) when formed in 1951. The Miami Marlins are an American professional baseball team based in Miami. The Marlins compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League (NL) East division. The club's home ballpark is LoanDepot Park. The franchise began play as an expansion team in the 1993 season as the Florida Marlins. The Fort Lauderdale Yankees, based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, were an American Minor League Baseball franchise that existed from 1962 through 1992. The team was a member of the Florida State League (FSL) as an affiliate of the New York Yankees and won seven FSL championships during its 31 years of existence. The team was formed when the Yankees moved their spring training base from St. Petersburg, Florida, to Fort Lauderdale Stadium after the season. Palatka Redlegs
The Palatka Redlegs were a minor league baseball team that existed from 1956 to 1962 as members of the Florida State League, as descendants from the Palatka Azaleas. The team began as an affiliate of the Detroit Tigers in 1956, as the Palatka Tigers. From 1957 to 1960, the franchise was affiliated with the Cincinnati Reds. In 1961 they were affiliated with the Milwaukee Braves. The Redlegs enjoyed a fairly successful run during their affiliation with the Reds, finishing no worse than third place over four seasons, including making the league finals in 1957 and winning the championship in 1960. However, as a Braves' affiliate, it would finish 61–78, which earned them sixth place in the 1961 FSL. The franchise then affiliated with the Chicago Cubs as the Palatka Cubs before folding in 1962.
