Eritrea
Eritrea ( ; ti, ኤርትራ, Ertra, ; ar, إرتريا, ʾIritriyā), officially the State of Eritrea, is a country in the Horn of Africa region of Eastern Africa, with its capital and largest city at Asmara. It is bordered by Ethiopia in the south, Sudan in the west, and Djibouti in the southeast. The northeastern and eastern parts of Eritrea have an extensive coastline along the Red Sea. The nation has a total area of approximately , and includes the Dahlak Archipelago and several of the Hanish Islands. Human remains found in Eritrea have been dated to 1 million years old and anthropological research indicates that the area may contain significant records related to the evolution of humans. Merhawi Kudus
Merhawi Kudus Ghebremedhin ( ti, መርሃዊ ቕዱስን ገብረመድኅን; born 23 January 1994 in Asmara) is professional Eritrean cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . He was named in the start list for the 2015 Tour de France, becoming one of the first two black Africans to start the Tour alongside teammate and countryman Daniel Teklehaimanot. At the age of 21 Kudus was the youngest rider in the race. He was named in the start list for the 2016 Giro d'Italia. He competed in the men's road race at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Dawit Isaak
Dawit Isaak (born 28 October 1964) is a Swedish-Eritrean playwright, journalist and writer who has been held in prison in Eritrea since 2001 without trial and is considered a traitor by the Eritrean government. Amnesty International considers him a prisoner of conscience and has called for his immediate and unconditional release. For years, he was the only Swedish citizen held as a prisoner of conscience (he is now joined by the Swedish citizen and publicist Gui Minhai). Asylum and Swedish citizenship Isaak came to Sweden in August 1987, where he settled in the west coast city of Gothenburg and became a Swedish citizen on 4 November 1992. When Eritrea gained independence, Isaak returned to his native country, married and had children. He began working as a reporter for the country's first independent newspaper, '' Setit''. Osman Saleh Sabbe
Osman Saleh Sabbe was born in 1932 in a village of Hirgigo in the suburb of Massawa, he was fifth of eight siblings. After attending local Islamic school, he joined Hirgigo primary school which was founded by Pasha Saleh Ahmed Kekia in 1944. After finishing elementary and middle school he traveled to Addis Ababa to complete his secondary school and attend teacher training college. While in Addis Ababa, he was active in establishing a Muslim student association. After graduating from teacher training college, he returned to Hirgigo and worked as a teacher and later a principal of the school. In 1956 he took the General Certificate of Education Exam of the University of London and pursued his education with distance learning and he obtained a Bachelor degree in History and Political Science. Fesshaye Yohannes
Fesshaye Yohannes (born c. 1955, death year unknown) was an Eritrean journalist who founded the weekly journal '' Setit'' and was a recipient of the Committee to Protect Journalists' 2002 International Press Freedom Award. Fesshaye was imprisoned without charges in September 2001, and died in government custody. Career Fesshaye became a journalist in the early 1990s, after Eritrea gained its independence from Ethiopia. Previously, he had been a member of the guerrilla movement fighting for Eritrean independence in the Eritrean War of Independence. In 1994, he founded the weekly journal ''Setit'', one of the country's first independent newspapers, named for the only Eritrean river to have water all year. ''Setit'' soon gained the largest circulation in Eritrea. The journal covered difficult and controversial topics, including poverty, prostitution, and the lack of resources for handicapped veterans of the Eritrean independence movement. Abdulkadir Kebire
Abdulkadir Mohamed Saleh Kebire was born in 1902 at Desiet Island around Massawa. He attended Quranic school followed by the Ferdinando Martini School for his elementary education. At the age of 18, Abdulkadir left for Egypt for pursuit of education and it is where he witnessed the revolution of Saad Zeqlul against the British, an incident that left its mark on him and shaped his rebellious character. A self-educated person, Abdulkadir become more interested in politics and was determined to make a change in his country to improve the livelihood of his people.

Saba Kidane
Saba Kidane (born 1978) is an Eritrean journalist, poet, and political activist. Early life Born in Asmara, Saba Kidane dropped out of school and joined the Eritrean People's Liberation Front at the age of 13. She returned to school in 1995. She was a program director for youth radio and is a single mother. Most of her poetry is composed in Tigrinya (; also spelled Tigrigna) is an Ethio-Semitic language commonly spoken Eritrea and in northern Ethiopia's Tigray Region by the Tigrinya and Tigrayan peoples. It is also spoken by the global diaspora of these regions. History and literature .... Her poetry addresses children, everyday life, social issues, and the effect of war on Eritrean women. After studying literature in Eritrea, he moved to Modena, Italy, in 1974, where he has worked as an intercultural expert and has published several articles about the migratory phenomenon. Yegizaw Michael
Yegizaw Michael is a prominent artist in Eritrea. He has exhibited his art in Eritrea, Kenya, Uganda, United States and Austria and has won numerous prizes and Awards. In 1995 he was the Best Artist of the Year in Kenya. He is also a two-time winner of Eritrea's ''Raimok'' National Art Award for 1996 and 1997. In 1997 Yegizaw was the initiator, organizer and artist director of the historic ''Artists Against AIDS'' national awareness campaign in Eritrea. Michael Adonai
Michael Adonai (born 5 December 1962 in Asmara) is a visual artist from Eritrea. From an early age, Adonai had an interest in painting, influenced by his older brother Berhane, who went on to also get some notoriety as an Eritrean painter. At the age of 10 he was hit in a local market bombed by Ethiopia with canisters filled with napalm that ravaged his skin. He joined the Eritrean People's Liberation Front with his brother Berhane in 1977, at the age of 14. This revolutionary organization began Adonai’s formal education in painting with his enrollment at the EPLF Cultural Establishment in 1978. His early work was highly political, choosing to focus on the hardships endured because of the Eritrean War of Independence. His later work has focused on a traditional painting style in Eritrea known as Coptic art. Hennos Asmelash (Geʽez: ሐንኖስ ኣስመላሽ; born 1 July 1999) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a right-back for Polish III liga club Wieczysta Kraków.
