List Of Durham CCC Players
This is a list in alphabetical order of cricketers who have played for Durham County Cricket Club in top-class matches since December 1991 when the team was elevated to official first-class status, the club joining the County Championship in 1992. Durham has been officially classified as a List A team since 1992, although the county did take part in 27 List A matches between 1964 and 1991. The club has been a first-class Twenty20 team since the inauguration of the Twenty20 Cup in 2003. The details are the player's usual name followed by the years in which he was active as a Durham player and then his name is given as it usually appears on match scorecards. Note that many players represented other top-class teams besides Durham and that some played for the club in minor counties cricket before 1992. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Philip Berry
Philip John Berry (born 28 December 1966, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, Yorkshire, England) was an English first-class cricketer, who has played for both Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Durham County Cricket Club. In 26 first-class matches, he scored a total of 516 runs at 20.64, and took 39 wickets with his right arm off breaks at a cost of 45.02. Berry made his first-class debut for his home county in 1986, during which year he also played for England Young Cricketers against Sri Lanka at Trent Bridge. He played for Yorkshire until 1990, but made just seven first-class appearances, before playing for Durham, appearing in nineteen matches from 1992 to 1994. Although his overall record is modest, Berry did enjoy one spectacular game for Durham against Middlesex County Cricket Club at Lord's in July 1992, during which he recorded both his highest score and best bowling figures. Mark Briers
Mark Paul Briers (born 21 April 1968) is a former English cricketer. He was born in Loughborough in Leicestershire. Briers represented Bedfordshire in the 1990 Minor Counties Championship where he made his debut against Lincolnshire. Briers represented Bedfordshire in five Minor Counties Championship matches that season, the last of which came against Suffolk. In 1991 Briers joined Durham and played in their final season as a Minor County. With Durham's promotion to first-class status in 1992, thereby gaining entry to the 1992 County Championship, Briers made his first-class debut against Somerset. Briers made his List-A debut in the same season against Sussex in the Sunday League. Briers played seventeen first-class matches for Durham, scoring 462 runs at an average of 17.17, including four half-centuries with a top score of 62 *. Graeme Bridge
Graeme David Bridge (born 4 September 1980) is a former English first-class cricketer. Born in Sunderland, Bridge is a right-handed batsman and a left-arm slow bowler. He played for Durham and the Durham Cricket Board for the entirety of his first-class career. His debut came in the AXA County Championship in 1999, where he took the wicket of Gary Butcher. He never managed to establish himself on a regular basis and was released at the end of the 2006 season. Unable to find another club, he drifted away from the first-class game. Ruel Brathwaite
Ruel Marlon Ricardo Brathwaite (born 6 September 1985) is a Barbadian cricketer. Brathwaite is a right-handed batsman who bowls right-arm fast-medium. He was born in Bridgetown. Early life and career Brathwaite was educated at Queen's College in Barbados, before leaving for England when he was 17 to attend Dulwich College. While studying at Dulwich, Brathwaite was spotted by former England Test cricketer Bill Athey. Ian Terence Botham, Baron Botham, (born 24 November 1955) is an English cricket commentator, member of the House of Lords, a former cricketer who has been chairman of Durham County Cricket Club since 2017 and charity fundraiser. Hailed as one of the greatest all-rounders in the history of the game, Botham represented England in both Test and One-Day International cricket. He played most of his first-class cricket for Somerset, at other times competing for Worcestershire, Durham and Queensland. Scott Borthwick
Scott George Borthwick (born 19 April 1990) is an English cricketer. He is a left-handed batsman and leg-break bowler who captains Durham. He was born in Sunderland. Borthwick played in the North East Premier League for Philadelphia during the 2005 campaign, and played sporadic matches for Durham's Second XI in 2006. Borthwick played for Durham Academy in the North East Premier League 2007 and 2008 competitions. He also represented Tynemouth Cricket Club, as their Durham contract player for the 2009 season, with his performances safeguarding them from relegation. David Boon
David Clarence Boon (born 29 December 1960) is an Australian cricket match referee, former cricket commentator and Australian cricket team, international cricketer whose international playing career spanned the years 1984–1996. A right-handed batsman and a very occasional off-spin Bowler (cricket), bowler, he played first-class cricket for both his home state Tasmania Tigers, Tasmania and English county cricket, county side Durham. James Boiling
James Boiling (born 8 April 1968) is an Indian-born former English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm off-break bowler. He was born in New Delhi and educated at Rutlish School in Merton, south London. At Rutlish, he came to prominence by winning the Daily Telegraph Young Bowler of the Year award in 1986, taking 94 wickets including 10 wickets for 30 runs against Wallington Grammar School. Boiling's first-class career began in 1988, when he was signed by Surrey after appearing for them in the Second XI the previous year. Andy Blignaut
Arnoldus Mauritius Blignaut (born 1 August 1978) is a former Zimbabwean cricketer, who played all formats of the game. He was a right-arm fast-medium bowler, also known as a hard-hitting batsman in ODIs, where he frequently scored a fast rate; though he was seldom able to sustain this form and keeping his wicket intact through many overs. Darren Andrew Blenkiron (born 4 February 1974 in Solihull, Warwickshire) is a former English cricketer. Blenkiron was a left-handed batsman who bowled right-arm medium pace.
