Science fiction first appeared in television programming in the late 1930s, during what is called the Golden Age of Science Fiction. Ace (Doctor Who)
Ace is a fictional character played by Sophie Aldred in the long-running British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who''. A 20th-century Earth teenager from the London suburb of Perivale, she is a companion of the Seventh Doctor and was a regular in the series from 1987 to 1989. The Time Monster
''The Time Monster'' is the fifth and final serial of the ninth season of the British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who'', which was first broadcast in six weekly parts on BBC1 from 20 May to 24 June 1972. The serial is set in a village near Cambridge as well as the mythical city of Atlantis. Josephine "Jo" Grant, later Jo Jones, is a fictional character played by Katy Manning in the long-running British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who''. Rani Chandra is a fictional character played by Anjli Mohindra in the British children's science fiction television programme ''The Sarah Jane Adventures'', a spin-off from the long-running series ''Doctor Who''. K9, occasionally written K-9, is the name of several fictional robotic canines (dogs, the name being a pun on the pronunciation of "canine") in the long-running British science fiction television series '' Doctor Who'', first appearing in 1977. K9 has also been a central character in three of the series' television spin-offs: the one-off ''K-9 and Company'' (1981), ''The Sarah Jane Adventures'' (2007–2011) and '' K-9'' (2009–2010). Romana (Doctor Who)
Romana, short for Romanadvoratrelundar (), is a fictional character in the long-running British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who''. A Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey, she is a companion to the Fourth Doctor. As a Time Lord, Romana is able to regenerate, having had two on-screen incarnations with somewhat different personalities (dubbed Romana I and Romana II by fans). UNIT stands for United Nations Intelligence Taskforce, a fictional entity in ''Doctor Who''. UNIT first appeared in the Second Doctor serial ''The Invasion (Doctor Who), The Invasion'', (1968), although Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart had appeared earlier in ''The Web of Fear'' (1968) as a Colonel (United Kingdom), colonel.
