Olivia Levison
Olivia Levison (30 June 1847 – 11 April 1894) was a Danish author and writer. Biography Born as Olivia Wilhelmine Rosalia Levison on 30 June 1847, in Copenhagen, Denmark, Olivia Levison was the daughter of Frederikke V. Bendix and Esaias Levison. She did not receive any formal education but she was “cultured and well versed in languages”. Through her brother she became acquainted with Georg Brandes, a noted Danish critic and scholar, who was associated with a Scandinavian culture movement known as " Modern Breakthrough". Bent Faurby
Bent Faurby (born 21 March 1937) is a Danish author and schoolteacher who has specialized in children's literature, writing both fiction and informative works covering a variety of subjects. Biography Born in Kolding, Faurby attended Silkeborg Seminarium (teacher training college) where he received his diploma in 1960. In 1962, he took up a teaching assignment in Upernavik in northwest Greenland which later led to two factual books about Greenland in 1996. Faurby got his first book published in 1976. His many Basal reader, reading books and easy readers for children and young people address everything from footballers to snakes. His work includes reader-friendly literature in the areas of history, geography and biology. Attractive Danish topics he has written about include Tordenskjold, the Øresund Link, pirates and sharks. Christian Jungersen
Christian Jungersen (born 10 July 1962 in Copenhagen) is a Danish novelist whose works have been translated into 20 languages. He has published three novels in Danish – ''Krat'' (1999), ''Undtagelsen'' (2004, published in English as ''The Exception'' in 2006), and ''Du Forsvinder'' (2012, published as ''You Disappear'' in 2014). Background and education Jungersen earned a master's in communication and social science from Roskilde University. Before publishing his first novel, he taught film at Folkeuniversitetet, an open university in Copenhagen. He also worked as an advertising copywriter, a manuscript consultant, and a TV screenwriter. Ellen Jørgensen (historian)
Ellen Sophie Rasmine Jørgensen (1877–1948) was a Danish historian and librarian. She is remembered internationally for her authoritative books on Danish historiography, including ''Historieforskning og Historieskrivning i Danmark intil Aar 1800'' (1931). Her earlier doctorate thesis ''Helgendyrkelse i Danmark i Middelalderens senere Tid'' provides a detailed, well-sourced account of the church and scholarly history of Denmark and Europe in the late middle ages. In addition to heading the Manuscript Department of the Royal Danish Library, from 1924 to 1931 Jørgensen was the first woman to serve as editor of the journal '' Historisk Tidsskrift''. Johannes Vilhelm Jensen
Johannes Vilhelm Jensen (20 January 1873 – 25 November 1950) was a Danish author, known as one of the great Danish writers of the first half of 20th century. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1944 "for the rare strength and fertility of his poetic imagination with which is combined an intellectual curiosity of wide scope and a bold, freshly creative style". One of his sisters, Thit Jensen, was also a well-known writer and a very vocal, and occasionally controversial, early feminist. Early years He was born in Farsø, a village in North Jutland, Denmark, as the son of a veterinary surgeon and he grew up in a rural environment. Peter Høeg
Peter Høeg (born 17 May 1957) is a Danish writer of fiction. He is best known for his novel '' Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow'' (1992). Early life Høeg was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. Before becoming a writer, he worked variously as a sailor, ballet dancer and actor (in addition to fencing and mountaineering)—experiences that he uses in his novels. He studied literature at the University of Copenhagen under Peter Brask, a Danish literary scholar, composer and author. After a personal crisis, he spent a year working as a sailor on wealthy people's yachts, before returning to graduate with a Master of Arts in Literature from the University of Copenhagen in 1984. Career Peter Høeg published his first novel, ''A History of Danish Dreams'', in 1988 to very positive reviews. He decided at that stage to protect his personal life. Peer Hultberg
Peer Hultberg (8 November 1935 – 20 December 2007) was a Danish author and psychoanalyst. Peer Hultberg was born in Vangede northwest of Copenhagen and lived in Horsens and Viborg during his child and teenage years. From 1953 he studied at the University of Copenhagen (French, musicology and Slavic languages). He lived for some years in Skopje and Warsaw and then moved to London in 1959. He continued his studies of Slavic languages at the University of London and achieved a B.A. in 1963. Hultberg was a lecturer of Polish language and literature at the University of London for a couple of years while writing his thesis on the literary style of Wacław Berent. Having received his Ph.D., he moved back to his native country as a lecturer of the same subject at the University of Copenhagen in 1968. In 1973 he started studying Analytical psychology at the C. Henrik Hertz
Henrik Hertz (25 August 1797 – 25 February 1870) was a Danish poet. Biography He was born of Jewish parents in Copenhagen. In 1817 he was sent to the university. His father died in his infancy, and the family property was destroyed in the bombardment of 1807. The boy was brought up by his relative , a well-known newspaper editor. Young Hertz passed his examination in law in 1825. He lived in the South of France. But his taste was all for literature, and in 1826-1827 two plays of his were produced, ''Hr. Burchardt og hans Familie'' (''Mr. Burchardt and his Family'') and ''Kjærlighed og Politi'' (''Love and Policy''); in 1828 followed the comedy of ''Flyttedagen'' (''Moving Day''). Johan Ludvig Heiberg (poet)
Johan Ludvig Heiberg (14 December 1791 – 25 August 1860), Danish poet, playwright, literary critic, literary historian son of the political writer Peter Andreas Heiberg (1758–1841), and of the novelist, afterwards the Baroness Gyllembourg-Ehrensvärd, was born in Copenhagen. He promoted Hegelian philosophy and introduced vaudeville to Denmark. Biography In 1800 his father was exiled and settled in Paris, where he was employed in the French foreign office, retiring in 1817 with a pension. His political and satirical writings continued to exercise great influence over his fellow countrymen. Johan Ludvig Heiberg was taken by K.L. Thorkild Hansen
Thorkild Hansen (9 January 1927 – 4 February 1989) was a Danish novelist most noted for his historical fiction. He is popularly known for his trilogy of novels about the Danish slave trade which is composed of '' Coast of Slaves'' (1967), '' Ships of Slaves'' (1968), and '' Islands of Slaves'' (1970; for which he received the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 1971).
