DX-pedition
A DX-pedition is an expedition to what is considered an exotic place by amateur radio operators and DX listeners, typically because of its remoteness, access restrictions, or simply because there are very few radio amateurs active from that place. This could be an island, a country, or even a particular spot on a geographical grid. ''DX'' is a telegraphic shorthand for "distance" or "distant" (see DXing). History Early DX-peditions were simply exploratory and geographical expeditions in the late 1920s and 1930s, in which one or more radio amateurs participated to provide long-distance communications. At the same time they communicated with fellow radio amateurs who wanted to contact a new country. Most notable are the Antarctic expeditions of Admiral Byrd. Swains Island (; Tokelauan: ''Olohega'' ; Samoan: ''Olosega'' ) is a remote coral atoll in the Tokelau Islands in the South Pacific Ocean. The island is the subject of an ongoing territorial dispute between Tokelau and the United States, which has administered it as part of American Samoa since 1925. Privately owned by the family of Eli Hutchinson Jennings since 1856, Swains Island was used as a copra plantation until 1967. Sable Island
Sable Island (french: île de Sable, literally "island of sand") is a small Canadian island situated southeast of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and about southeast of the closest point of mainland Nova Scotia in the North Atlantic Ocean. The island is staffed year round by three federal government staff, rising during summer months when research projects and tourism increase. Notable for its role in early Canadian history and the Sable Island horse, the island is protected and managed by Parks Canada, which must grant permission prior to any visit. The 3Y0J Bouvet Island DXpedition was an amateur radio event that occurred February 6–13, 2023. The expedition's goals were the same as other DXpeditions: to contact as many amateur radio stations as possible from a remote location. Bouvet Island is a uninhabited volcanic island claimed and administered as a nature preserve by Norway. It is located in the Subantarctic, in the Southern Ocean; amateur radio operators have a long history of operating in these areas. It is one of the most isolated islands in the world, being south of South Africa; most of the island is covered by glaciers. It was cut short at the request of the Chinese government. The trip to the reef was authorized by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Sports Commission. The team of 17 people came from 7 different countries and worked in 8-hour shifts manning the radio stations and would return to their vessel to recover and rest. FO0XB Clipperton Island DXpedition
The FO0XB Clipperton Island DX-pedition, DXpedition was an amateur radio expedition that took place over two weeks in March and April 1978. The group left from San Diego on March 14, 1978 and was the first DXpedition to Clipperton Island in over 20 years and was the first a few other successful major DXpeditions including FO0XX (1985), FO0CI (1992), FO0AAA (2000), TX5C (2008), TX5K (2013) and TX5S (2024). The team was set up with three groups eight French members, six American members, and three Swiss members. The operators attempted to make contacts using the amateur radio satellite AMSAT-OSCAR 7, Oscar 7. Members of the expedition came from many walks of life including a police officer, medical doctor, teacher, horticulturist, and a judge.
