Czech Republic
The Czech Republic, or simply Czechia, is a landlocked country in Central Europe. Historically known as Bohemia, it is bordered by Austria to the south, Germany to the west, Poland to the northeast, and Slovakia to the southeast. The Czech Republic has a hilly landscape that covers an area of with a mostly temperate continental and oceanic climate. The capital and largest city is Prague; other major cities and urban areas include Brno, Ostrava, Plzeň and Liberec. The Duchy of Bohemia was founded in the late 9th century under Great Moravia. Marian Korn
Marian Korn (1914–1987) was a Czechoslovakian printmaker. She was born February 15, 1914, in Chomutov, Austro-Hungarian Empire. In 1931, she moved to Prague, and in 1931, she graduated from the Women's College of Prague. She married in 1938, and emigrated to the United States in 1939. In 1949, she moved to Tokyo with her entrepreneur husband Frank and two daughters. In 1970, Korn accompanied one of her daughters to the atelier of Gaston Petit, where the daughter had been taking lessons. The daughter eventually became an art historian specializing in Japanese art, and, at the age of 56, Korn began her printmaking career by making woodcuts and linocuts. Her honors included a full membership in Shuyōkai (1984) and an associate membership in Kokugakai (1985). She died in Tokyo on February 24, 1987. Charlotte Piepenhagen-Mohr
Charlotte Ludmila Weyrother-Mohr-Piepenhagen (19 October 1821 in Prague – 3 January 1902 in Prague) was a Bohemian landscape painter and lithographer in the Romantic style. Biography She was one of four children born to the landscape painter of Brandenburgian (German) origin, August Piepenhagen. Michaela Pavlátová
Michaela Pavlátová (born 27 February 1961) is a Czech animator, film director and teacher. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for ''Words, Words, Words'' (1991) and won the Short Film Golden Bear for ''Repete'' (1995). As a feminist experimental animator Michaela's work explores themes of sex, gender, philosophy and relationality. Beyond her independent work she worked as the art director for Wildbrain Inc. She currently teaches animation at the Academy of Performing Arts, film and TV School in Prague. Michaela has also taught at the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design in Prague, the Academy of Art College, Computer Arts Institute in San Francisco and at Harvard University in Prague. Květa Pacovská
Květa Pacovská (born 28 July 1928) is a Czech artist and illustrator. She received the international Hans Christian Andersen Medal in 1992 for her "lasting contribution to children's literature". Life and career Pacovská was born in Prague and studied at its School of Applied Arts, where she mainly worked in graphic art, arts, conceptual art and artist book fields. For many years she developed a career as a graphic designer and participated in more than 50 exhibitions. In 1961 she started drawing picture books for her own children. Her work is characterised by the use of geometric forms and vibrant colours, mainly red. Jaroslava Muchová
Jaroslava Muchová Syllabová (15 March 1909 – 9 November 1986) was a Czech painter, the daughter of painter Alphonse Mucha and the sister of writer and translator Jiří Mucha. Biography Muchová was born in New York on 15 March 1909 her parents were in the United States while her father tried unsuccessfully to raise funds to support his project ''The Slav Epic'' ( cs, Slovanská epopej). As a child she studied ballet, but eventually followed in the footsteps of her father: she assisted in the creation of the ''Slav Epic'' by mixing colours and tracing detail studies onto the giant canvases ready for painting. Galina Miklínová (July 28, 1970) is a Czech illustrator and director of cartoons. She graduated from UMPRUM in Prague in 1997. She also studied at the University of Humberside in the United Kingdom. Alena Matejka
Alena Matejka (also Alena Matějková; born 26 January 1966) is a Czech sculptor and glass designer. She also works with other materials, often in combination. Education Matejka was born in Jindřichův Hradec; she studied at the Secondary School of Glassmaking in Kamenický Šenov from 1981 until 1985. She was a student of Professor Vladimir Kopecky at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (AAAD) between 1989 and 1997. Adéla Matasová
Adéla Matasová (born 26 July 1940, in Prague) is a Czech sculptor, multimedia artist and professor at the Art Institute. Biography Between 1954 and 1958, Matasova attended the Technical College of Interior Design in Prague. In 1958 she started studies at the Department of monumental painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (headed by prof. V. Sychra) and graduated in 1964. She was awarded the UNESCO grant for a two-month stay in Paris in 1968. By the second half of the 1960s, her interest focused on sculpture and relief, using synthetic resin as basic material for her objects. These works were presented on individual exhibition in Prague in 1970. In 1974, she was invited to prepare a performance project (on music composed by E. Varese) in Ceské Budejovice. Amalie Mánesová
Amalie Mánesová (21 January 1817, Prague - 4 July 1883, Prague) was a Czech landscape painter. Biography She came from an artistic family. Her father, Antonín Mánes, brothers Josef Mánes, Josef and Quido Mánes, Quido, and uncle Václav Mánes, Václav were all painters. Martina Krupičková
Martina Krupičková () (born 15 September 1975) is a Czech oil on canvas artist. Early life Martina Krupičková was born in the Czech town of '' Světlá nad Sázavou'', which is approximately 100 km from Prague, Czech Republic. In 1990, Krupičková commenced Fashion Design and Textile studies at a school in Brno. After graduating, Krupičková traveled extensively, including several months in England and the USA. In 1999, Krupičková returned to Prague and started to paint oil on a black canvas using a palette knife. Career Krupičková has since had over 30 exhibitions, including a work in the 2008 ''Royal Academy'' Summer Exhibition.
