Checkmate is a fictional covert operations agency, as published by DC Comics. The roster of the agency has changed a great deal over the years. These roster lists are of the members during the agency's various incarnations. The codenames listed under Character are those used during the time frame of the particular iteration. Characters with more than one codename for that period have them listed chronologically and separated by a slash (/). Checkmate (comics)
Checkmate, a division of Task Force X, is a fictional covert operations agency appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The antihero team first appeared in ''Action Comics'' #598 and proceeded to have its own ongoing title in ''Checkmate!'' In the wake of events depicted in the mini-series ''The OMAC Project'' and ''Infinite Crisis'', Checkmate is re-chartered as a United Nations Security Council-affiliated agency and was again given its own series, ''Checkmate'' (vol. 2). Publication history The Checkmate organization was created by Paul Kupperberg and Steve Erwin, first appearing in ''Action Comics'' #598 in 1988. The precursor to this fictional organization was known as the Agency, first appearing in ''Vigilante'' #36. Harry Stein was appointed Valentina Vostok's replacement in The Agency's command position by Amanda Waller. Deathstroke
Deathstroke (Slade Joseph Wilson) is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Created by Marv Wolfman and George PĂ©rez, the character debuted in '' The New Teen Titans'' #2 in December 1980 as Deathstroke the Terminator. He is usually depicted as being among the deadliest and most expensive assassins in the DC Universe and is a prominent enemy of several superhero teams, most notably the Teen Titans, the Titans, and the Justice League. He is also a prominent adversary to individual heroes such as Dick Grayson (as Robin and later Nightwing) who has been depicted at times as his archenemy, Batman, and Green Arrow. Deathstroke is also the father of Jericho, two iterations of Ravager (Grant and Rose Wilson), and Respawn.
