Cinema in Canada dates back to the earliest known display of film in Saint-Laurent, Quebec, in 1896. The film industry in Canada has been dominated by the United States, which has utilized Canada as a shooting location and to bypass British film quota laws, throughout its history. Canadian filmmakers, English and French, have been active in the development of cinema in the United States. Films by Thomas A. Edison, Inc. were some of the first to arrive in Canada and early films made in the country were produced by Edison Studios. Canadian Pacific Railway and other railways supported early filmmaking including James Freer, whose '' Ten Years in Manitoba'' was the first known film by a Canadian. Background Born in Granby, Quebec, Messier's 45-year acting career included the participation in several well-known films and television series. After finishing his studies and developed his acting skills in college, he played in various theatrical shows across the province of Quebec plays including "Broue". Devon Edward Sawa (born September 7, 1978) is a Canadian actor. Stuart Stone (born Stuart Eisenstein) is a Canadian film, television, and voice-over actor as well as a producer of television, film and music. He is best known for his roles as Ronald Fisher in the 2001 cult film, ''Donnie Darko'' and Ralphie Tennelli on ''The Magic School Bus'' animated television series from 1994 to 1997. Alongside Graeme Manson, he co-created and is a director for the award-winning BBC America television series ''Orphan Black''.
