Cinema in Canada dates back to the earliest known display of film in Saint-Laurent, Quebec, in 1896. The film industry in Canada has been dominated by the United States, which has utilized Canada as a shooting location and to bypass British film quota laws, throughout its history. Canadian filmmakers, English and French, have been active in the development of cinema in the United States. Films by Thomas A. Edison, Inc. were some of the first to arrive in Canada and early films made in the country were produced by Edison Studios. Canadian Pacific Railway and other railways supported early filmmaking including James Freer, whose '' Ten Years in Manitoba'' was the first known film by a Canadian. Paul Bradley (September 2, 1940 – September 1, 2003) was a Canadian actor, best known for his role as Joey in the classic Canadian film ''Goin' Down the Road''. Don Scardino
Donald Joseph Scardino (born February 17, 1949) is an American television director and producer and a former actor. Career Acting Scardino was born in New York City, to jazz musician parents, Dorothy Denny Scardino and Charles Scardino. His first Broadway credit was as an understudy in ''The Playroom'' in 1965. Additional Broadway acting credits include ''Johnny No-Trump'', ''Godspell'', and ''King of Hearts''. Off-Broadway he appeared in ''The Rimers of Eldritch'', ''The Comedy of Errors'', ''Moonchildren'', and '' I'm Getting My Act Together and Taking It on the Road'', he was also the lead in a B horror movie titled ''Squirm'' in 1976. John Trent (director)
John Trent (1935, London - June 3, 1983, Snelgrove, Ontario, Canada) was a British-born Canadian film director. He directed such films as Homer, Middle Age Crazy, and It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time. Before working in feature films, Trent worked in Canadian television in the 1960s, directing episodes of such popular CBC series as Quentin Durgens, M.P. and Wojeck, based on the career of the controversial Dr. Morton Shulman, then Toronto’s chief coroner. Céline Lomez
Céline Lomez (born 11 May 1953) is a Canadian actress and singer. Lomez started her show business career singing French-Canadian pop songs with her sister Liette, and the two gained popularity after their performance at the ''Festival du Disque'' in Quebec in 1968. Liette went on to join a trio called Toulouse. Lomez, however, was soon offered a role in the Denis Héroux film '' Here and Now'' (L'Initiation) (1970). She was only 15 years old at the time. She has also released two albums. One of her main hit songs was "L'amour dans les rangs de coton" (1974), a Louisiana zydeco-style ballad. She went on to play Christopher Plummer's ill-fated girlfriend in the cult thriller ''The Silent Partner'' in 1978. Chantal Renaud
Chantal Renaud (born 26 August 1946) is a Québécoise script writer, and a past yé-yé singer and actress. She was the wife of former Quebec Premier and former Parti Québécois leader Bernard Landry. Renaud began her career as a yé-yé singer, with a hit called "Comme un garçon", originally performed by Sylvie Vartan, in France. After acting in the sitcom ''Moi et l'autre'' and films such as '' Here and Now (L'Initiation)'' and '' Finalement...'', Renaud relocated to France, where she built a respectable career as an award-winning script writer. On 26 June 2004, after a courtship of some years, she married the widower former Premier of Quebec and then Parti Québécois leader Bernard Landry. She figures prominently in the 2003 documentary ''À Hauteur d'homme'' about the 2003 Quebec general election, during which Landry defended his post as leader of Quebec. John Richard Chambers (March 25, 1931 – April 13, 1978) was an artist and filmmaker. Born in London, Ontario, Chambers' painting style shifted from surrealist-influenced to photo-realist-influenced. He used the term "Perceptual Realism" and later " perceptualism" to describe his style. He began working with film in the 1960s, completing six by 1970. Stan Brakhage proclaimed Chambers' '' The Hart of London'' as "one of the greatest films ever made."
