This is a list of the Canadian electoral districts used between 2003 and 2013. During this period, the House of Commons of Canada had 308 seats. This arrangement was used in the 2004 federal election, the 2006 federal election, the 2008 federal election and the 2011 federal election. Electoral District (Canada)
An electoral district in Canada is a geographical constituency upon which Canada's representative democracy is based. It is officially known in Canadian French as a ''circonscription'' but frequently called a ''comté'' (county). In English it is also colloquially and more commonly known as a Riding (division), riding or constituency. Edmonton Centre (french: Edmonton-Centre) is a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1968 to 1979 and since 2004. Geography The riding is anchored in the heart of Downtown Edmonton. It also includes Spruce Avenue, Rossdale, Central McDougall, Prince Rupert, Oliver, Queen Mary Park, Westwood, Prince Charles, Sherbrooke, Dovercourt, Woodcroft, Inglewood, Westmount, North Glenora, Glenora, McQueen, Grovenor, Gagnon Estate, Canora, High Park, Crestwood, Jasper Park, Parkview, Laurier Heights, Lynnwood, Patricia Heights, Rio Terrace, and Quesnell Heights. Red Deer (electoral District)
Red Deer was a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1908 to 2015. History This riding was created in 1907 from Calgary and Strathcona ridings. At the time this was a vast riding taking in much of Central Alberta between the two major cities of Calgary and Edmonton. The only major urban centre was Red Deer, then a small town of only 1,500 people. Once an overwhelmingly rural constituency, it has been consistently reduced in geographic size over the years due to Red Deer's continued growth. In 2003, about 20% of the district was transferred to the Wetaskiwin riding. The riding was represented by centre-right MPs from 1935 onward. Like most other Alberta ridings outside Calgary and Edmonton, the major right-wing party of the day usually won here by blowout margins. Peace River was a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1925 to 2015. It was a rural riding in northwest Alberta, representing Clear Hills County, Saddle Hills County, Birch Hills County, the County of Grande Prairie No. 1, the County of Northern Lights, Mackenzie County, most of Northern Sunrise County, the Municipal District of Fairview No. 136, the Municipal District of Peace No. 135, the Municipal District of Spirit River No. 133, the Municipal District of Smoky River No. 130 and the northern portion of the Municipal District of Greenview No. 16. Medicine Hat (federal Electoral District)
Medicine Hat is a city in southeast Alberta, Canada. It is located along the South Saskatchewan River. It is approximately east of Lethbridge and southeast of Calgary. This city and the adjacent Town of Redcliff to the northwest are within Cypress County. Medicine Hat was the sixth-largest city in Alberta in 2016 with a population of 63,230. It is also the sunniest place in Canada according to Environment and Climate Change Canada, averaging 2,544 hours of sunshine a year. Started as a railway town, today Medicine Hat is served by the Trans-Canada Highway ( Highway 1) and the eastern terminus of the Crowsnest Highway ( Highway 3). Macleod (electoral District)
Macleod was a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1908 to 1968 and from 1988 to 2015. It was a mostly rural riding in southwest Alberta, however it extended as far north as the outer suburbs of Calgary, and in its final years included a few slivers of Calgary itself. It covered the Municipal District of Foothills No. 31, Municipal District of Willow Creek No. 26, Municipal District of Pincher Creek No. 9, Municipal District of Ranchland No. 66, Vulcan County, the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass, and Kananaskis Improvement District. Lethbridge (electoral District)
Lethbridge (formerly known as Lethbridge—Foothills) is a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1917. It incorporates the City of Lethbridge and Lethbridge County. Lethbridge has had a centre-right MP at the federal level since the 1930s. The current MP for Lethbridge is Rachael Thomas, who was first elected to parliament in 2015 for the Conservatives and was re-elected in 2021 as a Conservative MP. History This riding was originally created in 1914 from parts of Macleod riding. In 1977, it was renamed "Lethbridge—Foothills". Edmonton—Strathcona
Edmonton Strathcona (formerly known as Edmonton—Strathcona) is a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1953. It spans the south central part of the city of Edmonton. Edmonton Strathcona was the only federal riding in Alberta not held by the Conservative Party between 2008 and 2015 and 2019 to 2021. Geography The riding is home to most of Edmonton's francophones. Edmonton—Spruce Grove was a federal electoral district (Canada), electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 2004 to 2015. It was a suburban riding in Edmonton. The electoral district was created in 2003 from St. Albert (federal electoral district), St. Albert, Edmonton Southwest and Edmonton West ridings. It was abolished in 2013. Most of the Edmonton portion became part of a recreated Edmonton West, with a small portion transferring to Edmonton Centre. The suburban portion became part of Sturgeon River—Parkland.
