Electoral District (Canada)
An electoral district in Canada is a geographical constituency upon which Canada's representative democracy is based. It is officially known in Canadian French as a ''circonscription'' but frequently called a ''comté'' (county). In English it is also colloquially and more commonly known as a Riding (division), riding or constituency. Cape Breton—The Sydneys
Cape Breton—The Sydneys was a federal electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1968 to 1997. This riding was created in 1966 from Cape Breton South. It consisted initially of part of the county of Cape Breton, including the city of Sydney. In 1987, it was redefined to consist of parts of the Counties of Inverness, Victoria and Cape Breton including the City of Sydney. It was abolished in 1996 when it was merged into Sydney—Victoria. New Brunswick
New Brunswick (french: Nouveau-Brunswick, , locally ) is one of the thirteen provinces and territories of Canada. It is one of the three Maritime provinces and one of the four Atlantic provinces. It is the only province with both English and French as its official languages. Hillsborough (electoral District)
Charlottetown (formerly Hillsborough) is a federal electoral district in Prince Edward Island, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 2004. The district, which includes the entire City of Charlottetown, has an area of 46 km2 and a population of 34,562 as of 2011. Hillsborough was formed in 1966 (from the old Queen's (Prince Edward Island electoral district). It elected its first MP in 1968. It was re=drawn and re-named Charlottetown in 2003. South Western Nova
West Nova (french: Nova-Ouest) is a federal electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1968. South Western Nova and South West Nova were ridings that covered roughly the same geographic area and were represented in the House of Commons from 1968 to 1979 and 1979 to 1997, respectively. The district is rural with a few small towns and communities located along the coast. Halifax—East Hants was a federal electoral district in the province of Nova Scotia, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1968 to 1979. The riding was created in 1966 from parts of Colchester—Hants riding. It consisted of the Municipality of East Hants in the county of Hants, and parts of the county of Halifax and the city of Halifax. The electoral district was abolished in 1976 when it was redistributed between Annapolis Valley—Hants, Halifax and Halifax West ridings. Halifax (electoral District)
Halifax is a federal electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada. It is one of a handful of ridings which has been represented continuously (albeit with different boundaries) in the House of Commons since Confederation in 1867. The riding of Halifax includes the communities of Spryfield, Sambro, Herring Cove, Harrietsfield, Williamswood, Prospect, Purcell's Cove, Armdale, Cowie Hill, Fairmount, Kline Heights, and the Halifax Peninsula. History The electoral district was created at Confederation in 1867. It returned two members until 1968. The most notable of the riding's MPs was Robert Borden, who was Conservative leader from 1901–1920, and Prime Minister of Canada from 1911-1920.
