Recording Studio
A recording studio is a specialized facility for sound recording, mixing, and audio production of instrumental or vocal musical performances, spoken words, and other sounds. They range in size from a small in-home project studio large enough to record a single singer-guitarist, to a large building with space for a full orchestra of 100 or more musicians. Ideally, both the recording and monitoring (listening and mixing) spaces are specially designed by an acoustician or audio engineer to achieve optimum acoustic properties (acoustic isolation or diffusion or absorption of reflected sound echoes that could otherwise interfere with the sound heard by the listener). Recording studios may be used to record singers, instrumental musicians (e.g., electric guitar, piano, saxophone, or ensembles such as orchestras), voice-over artists for advertisements or dialogue replacement in film, television, or animation, foley, or to record their accompanying musical soundtracks. British Grove Studios
British Grove Studios is a recording studio located at 20 British Grove in Chiswick, West London, and owned by musician Mark Knopfler. British Grove Studios was built by David Stewart, the studio's former manager, and commissioned by Knopfler as "a monument to past and future technology". It has two studios. Alongside modern technology, the equipment includes two old EMI mixing consoles: a very rare tube desk from the 1960s like the ones used by George Martin and The Beatles, and a later console on which the album ''Band on the Run'' was recorded. The large console in studio one is a custom-made Neve 88R, while the console in studio two is an API Legacy. The main speakers are ATC monitors in a 5.1 configuration. Chiddingfold
Chiddingfold is a village and civil parish in the Weald in the Waverley district of Surrey, England. It lies on the A283 road between Milford and Petworth. The parish includes the hamlets of Ansteadbrook, High Street Green and Combe Common. Chiddingfold Forest, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, lies mostly within its boundaries. History The name of Chiddingfold 'Chadynge's fold', , is derived from the Saxon, probably meaning the fold (enclosure for animals) "in the hollow". Chiddingfold has an historic link to glass-making. John Aubrey, the 17th century antiquary, mistakenly claimed there were no fewer than eleven glassworks in Chiddingfold, however, as Kenyon states in his authoritative ‘The Glass Industry of the Weald’, Leicester University Press 1967, p.7, there were probably no more than twelve in the whole of Surrey. The Farm (recording Studio)
Fisher Lane Farm is the main recording studio of the English progressive rock band Genesis. The studio is located in Chiddingfold, Surrey, England. Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks and Phil Collins have also recorded there as solo artists, or with side projects (e.g. Mike + The Mechanics). Genesis recorded every album since '' Abacab'' in this studio, including '' Genesis'', ''Invisible Touch'' and '' We Can't Dance''; all of them became the best-selling albums released by the band. The farm was initially formed by a cowshed located beside a cottage, hence the full name "Fisher Lane Farm". It was remodelled into a studio in 1980, shortly before Genesis recorded their album '' Abacab''. In 1984, a new control room was added to the building, leaving the original control room to be an editing room. Willerby, East Riding Of Yorkshire
Willerby is a village and civil parishes in England, civil parish located on the western outskirts of the city of Kingston upon Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. Willerby was a minor settlement up to the 20th century, during which it became a suburb of Kingston upon Hull, and its urban development extended south-eastwards towards Hull. Fairview Studios
Fairview Studios is an independent recording studio located in Willerby, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. Established by a local man Keith Herd in 1966, it has recorded musical acts such as Def Leppard, Mick Ronson, Red Guitars, Mostly Autumn and The Housemartins. Over the years the facility has become well respected within the music industry. History Keith Herd (born 1936) hailed from Holmpton, East Riding of Yorkshire, the son of a farmer. Inspired by the music of Bill Haley and Tommy Steele, Herd formed his own outfit The Keith Herd Quartet and in 1962, recorded a demo of them in his own home in Willerby. Their then vocalist, Dave Tenney, was signed to a recording contract by Dick James, although their collective musical ambitions faded. Tenney later sang part of the novelty song, " Star Trekkin'", by The Firm which reached number one in the UK Singles Chart in 1987. Eel Pie Studios
Eel Pie Recording Studios, formerly Oceanic, was a recording studio located in The Boathouse, Twickenham on the banks of the River Thames in Ranelagh Drive, by Twickenham Bridge, West London, and also simultaneously at No. 45 Broadwick Street, Soho, London. The name for the studios came from the nearby Eel Pie Island, which was known as a major jazz and blues venue in the 1960s. The building in Twickenham was originally a 1960s boathouse, and its riverside location allowed Pete Townshend to commute there by boat, having lost his driving licence. From 1981 the studios were run as a commercial operation and were the location for a number of notable rock and pop recordings. Eden Studios
Eden Studios was a commercial recording facility in west London. It opened in 1967, originally at 11 Eden Street in Kingston upon Thames (now under the Eden Walk shopping centre), before moving to 20-24 Beaumont Road in Chiswick in 1972. It was started by Philip Love, Mike Gardner and Piers Ford-Crush. Love and Gardner owned the studio and worked there as financial and technical directors, respectively. Ford-Crush retired in 1998. The studio closed in July 2007 and the Chiswick site was demolished for housing. Chipping Norton Recording Studios
Chipping Norton Recording Studios was a residential recording studio in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, England, which operated from 1971 until October 1999. The studios were created by Mike and Richard Vernon as the in-house studio for Mike Vernon's record company Blue Horizon Records, and operated out of the former British Schools building at 26-30 New Street, a Grade II listed building. Further properties were added in adjacent buildings and the studio eventually provided 15 bedrooms with on-site catering for visiting musicians. Ca Va Studios or Ca Va Sound is a professional recording studio based in the West End of Glasgow, Scotland. CaVa has previously had bases both in Glasgow and Edinburgh. The studios began in 1974 started by founder Brian Young and his team. Since then have recorded some of the biggest names in both UK and international music scenes including Westlife, Belle & Sebastian, Paolo Nutini, Robbie Williams and Take That, The Script, Ed Sheeran, Snow Patrol, Avril Lavigne, The Black Eyed Peas, Texas, Jessie J, The Proclaimers, Rage Against the Machine, Travis, Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Byrne, Mogwai, Eddi Reader and The Fall, amongst others.
