Simon Acland
Simon Acland (born 27 March 1958) is a British venture capitalist and author. Education Simon Hugh Verdon Acland was educated at Eton and Lincoln College, Oxford, graduating in 1979 with an Honours Degree in Modern Languages (French and German). Career Venture capitalism He spent most of his venture capital career at London-based Quester. He specialised in backing early-stage technology businesses. Two of these, Surfcontrol plc and Orchestream plc, became members of the FTSE 250. Quester was acquired in 2007 by Spark Ventures. Acland is a director of a number of companies, including AIM-listed Elektron Technology plc and two Venture Capital Trusts managed by Triple Point Investment Management, TP70 2008 (I) plc and TP70 2010 plc. David Harding (finance)
Sir David Winton Harding (born August 1961) is a British billionaire businessman, and the founder and CEO of Winton Group. He had previously co-founded Man AHL (formerly Adam, Harding & Lueck). His approach favours quantitative investment strategies, using scientific research as the basis of trading decisions. Harding is also known for his philanthropy, which includes a £100m donation to the University of Cambridge, the largest ever donation by a British citizen to a university. Harding has also endowed the Winton Professor of the Public Understanding of Risk in the Statistical Laboratory at Cambridge's Faculty of Mathematics, and established the Harding Center for Risk Literacy at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development. Michael Edward Platt (born 12 December 1968) is a British billionaire hedge fund manager. He is the co-founder and managing director of BlueCrest Capital Management, Europe's third-largest hedge-fund firm which he co-founded in 2000. He is Britain's wealthiest hedge fund manager according to the ''Forbes Real Time Billionaires List'', with an estimated wealth of US$15.2 billion. Early life and education Platt was born in Preston, Lancashire, England in 1968. His father taught civil engineering at the University of Manchester. His mother was a university administrator. Stephen Peel
Stephen Mark Peel (born 29 December 1965) is a British businessman, private equity investor and Olympic athlete. Early life Peel was born in Blackburn, Lancashire, on 29 December 1965. He was educated at King's School, Chester. He has a degree in land economy from Downing College, Cambridge in 1987, and is now a Wilkins Fellow. Sir Michael Jonathan Moritz (born 12 September 1954) is a Welsh billionaire venture capitalist, philanthropist, author, and former journalist. Moritz works for Sequoia Capital, wrote the first history of Apple Inc., ''The Little Kingdom'', and authored ''Going for Broke: Lee Iacocca's Battle to Save Chrysler''. Kevin Johnson (born 30 August 1960 in Holyhead, Wales) is a partner at medicxi, a venture capital firm focused on life sciences investments based on the asset-centric approach to investing. He was formerly with Index Ventures, having joined the venture capital firm in 2010. Education and career Johnson graduated in Molecular Biology from Edinburgh University and has a PhD in Pathology from Cambridge University. John Langston (MP)
John Langston ( 1758 – 18 February 1812) was an English merchant banker and politician. He sat in the House of Commons of Great Britain and its successor the House of Commons of the United Kingdom for most of the years between 1784 and 1807. Early life and family Langston was the oldest son of James Langston and his wife Sarah, of Sarsden House in Oxfordshire. In 1784 he married Sarah Goddard, daughter of John Goddard of Woodford Hall, Essex. They had one son (James Langston) and four daughters. Inheritance Langston was probably educated at Eton. He had a generous inheritance from his father, who died in 1795. As well as being a wine merchant in London, James Langston was a deputy governor of the Bank of England and founder of the merchant bank of Langston, Towgood and Amory. Arthur Ingram
Sir Arthur Ingram (ca. 1565 – 1642) was an English investor, landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons of England, House of Commons at various times between 1610 and 1642. The subject of an influential biography, he has been celebrated for his "financial skill and ruthless self-interest", and characterized as "a rapacious, plausible swindler who ruined many during a long and successful criminal career".
