Brazilian People
Brazilians ( pt, Brasileiros, ) are the citizens of Brazil. A Brazilian can also be a person born abroad to a Brazilian parent or legal guardian as well as a person who acquired Brazilian nationality law, Brazilian citizenship. Brazil is a multiethnic society, which means that it is home to people of many ethnic origins, and there is no correlation between one's stock and their Brazilian identity. Being Brazilian is a civic phenomenon, rather than an ethnic one. As a result, the degree to which Brazilian citizens identify with their ancestral roots varies significantly depending on the individual, the Regions of Brazil, region of the country, and the specific ethnic origins in question. João Silvério Trevisan
João Silvério Trevisan (born June 23, 1944 in Ribeirão Bonito, São Paulo) is Brazilian author, playwright, journalist, screenwriter and film director. In his much-diversified oeuvres, he has published eleven books, among them great works of fiction, essays, short stories, and screenplays. Trevisan has been influential as a literary and cultural critic, particularly on gay and lesbian issues and his works have been translated into English, Spanish, and German. Career Early in his career in 1970, Trevisan wrote and directed a feature film, ''Orgia ou o Homem que Deu Cria'', which was censured by the Brazilian military regime for almost ten years. In 1976, however, Trevisan wrote his first book, ''Testamento de Jônatas Deixado a Davi'', and in 1983, ''Em Nome do Desejo''. He subsequently emerged as one of Brazil's more important literary figures due to the enormous quantity and quality of work produced over the course of his career on a variety of topics. Karim Aïnouz (born 17 January 1966) is a Brazilian film director and visual artist. Career Karim Aïnouz was born to a Brazilian mother and an Algerian father. He is a film director, screenwriter and visual artist. Aïnouz's feature debut, ''Madame Satã'', premiered in 2002 at the Cannes Film Festival, Un Certain Regard. His following films, '' O Céu de Suely'' (Love for Sale), and '' Viajo porque preciso, volto porque te amo'' (''I Travel Because I Have to, I Come Back Because I Love You''), co-directed with Marcelo Gomes, premiered at the ''Venice Film Festival – Orizzonti'', in 2006 and 2009. Carine Adler
Carine Adler, Baroness Reid of Cardowan (born 1948) is a Brazilian screenwriter and film director. Career Adler's break came when the British Film Institute asked her to develop her short film ''Touch and Go'' into a full-length feature. The result was '' Under the Skin'', the screenplay for which took her two years to write. According to Richard Armstrong in ''The Rough Guide to Film'', "What distinguishes her small oeuvre is the fusion of her protagonists' desire and their sense of inferiority." Personal life Adler is the second wife of former British government minister Dr John Reid, Baron Reid, whom she married in 2002. Gilda De Abreu
Gilda de Abreu (; 23 September 1904 – 4 June 1979) was a Brazilian actress, singer, writer and film director. Biography Born to a wealthy family, Gilda de Abreu began her career as a singer, performing in stage musicals and operettas. She first started appearing in theater productions in 1936, when she starred in the romantic comedy ''Bonequinha de Seda'', produced by Adhemar Gonzaga. The film acted as a break-out role for Abreu, allowing for a transition from her previous stage-based career to one in the Brazilian film industry. She was one of the first women to direct films in Brazil, coming to renown for her directorial debut, ''O Ébrio'' (The Drunkard) in 1946. The film, in addition to being the first sound film directed by a woman, was a commercial and critical success, with approximately 4 million viewings between 1946 and 1950. Alê Abreu (born March 6, 1971) is a Brazilian film director and screenwriter. ''Sírius'', his first short film, debuted at the 1993 Anima Mundi as the only Brazilian animation that year. It won the Best Film Award at the Festival de Cine para Niños y Jovenes and was also screened at the Mostra Internacional de Cinema São Paulo and at the section Animation for Children of the Hiroshima International Animation Festival. His second short film, ''Espantalho'' (lit. Walter Hugo Khouri
Walter Hugo Khouri (São Paulo, 21 October 1929 – São Paulo, 27 June 2003) was a Brazilian film director, screenwriter, and producer of Lebanese and Italian descent. Khouri made 25 feature films and won several national and international awards. His 1964 film '' Empty Night'' is considered one of the best Brazilian films of all time and was entered for the Palm d'Or in the 1965 Cannes Film Festival. His films show characters, mostly male, who seek meaning for a distressing existence. Roberto Farias (27 March 1932 – 14 May 2018) was a Brazilian film director, producer and screenwriter. He directed 15 films during his career. His 1982 film '' Pra Frente, Brasil'' was entered into the 33rd Berlin International Film Festival. Farias' brother Reginaldo Faria (the 's' was added to his surname due to an error at the registry) is also a film director and actor. Anselmo Duarte Bento (; 21 April 1920 – 7 November 2009) was a Brazilian actor, screenwriter and film director. Early life Duarte was born in Salto, São Paulo on 21 April 1920. He was raised by his mother, alongside his six siblings. Career His 1962 film ''O Pagador de Promessas''—''Keeper of Promises''—was awarded the Golden Palm at the 1962 Cannes Film Festival, becoming, to date, the only Brazilian feature film to be distinguished this way and the first winner from the Southern Hemisphere.
