Football League First Division
The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. The First Division contained between 12 and 24 clubs, playing each other home and away in a double round robin. The competition was based on two points for a win from 1888 until the increase to three points for a win in 1981. After the creation of the Premier League, the name First Division was given to the second-tier division (from 1992). The name ceased to exist after the 2003–04 First Division season. Charlie Moore (footballer Born 1905)
Charles Moore (23 September 1905 – December 1972) was an English footballer who spent his entire professional career with Bradford City playing 339 league games. Career Born in Worksop on 23 September 1905, Charlie Moore started his football career with nearby Manton Colliery before signing with Bradford City in October 1926 as an inside forward. He scored on his debut in a 4–3 win over Manchester City on 18 December 1926 and, later the same season, played five games alongside his brother Fred. He concluded the season with eight goals, finishing as joint top goal-scorer. He moved to centre forward the following season, during which he scored 16 league goals to again be top goal-scorer, including five against Nelson. He was limited to just 14 games in 1928–29 but scored seven goals as City won Division Three (North). He dropped into the half back line after the club signed new forwards. George Robinson (footballer Born 1878)
George Henry Robinson (1878 – March 1945) was an English professional footballer who played as a half back for Nottingham Forest and Bradford City. Career Born in Basford, Robinson began his professional career with Nottingham Forest, having previously played for Notts Jardines and Newark.Frost, p. 135 He signed for Bradford City in June 1903. He played in City's first ever Football League game, against Grimsby. He was City's captain as they won the 1907–08 Second Division title, and he also played as they won the FA Cup in 1911, serving as vice-captain. He received two benefit matches, in 1909 (alongside Jimmy Millar) and in 1914. During World War One he made one wartime appearance. When he retired from playing in 1915 he had made a then club record 343 league appearances for City. Stuart McCall
Andrew Stuart Murray McCall (born 10 June 1964) is a professional football coach and former player. He is assistant manager at Sheffield United. McCall played in a total of 763 league games and in 40 full international matches for Scotland during his playing career. McCall started his career with Bradford City, where he made his first-team debut in 1982. He played six seasons at Valley Parade, during which time he won the Football League Third Division, Division Three championship, a title which was overshadowed by the Bradford City stadium fire when 56 people died and in which his father Andy McCall (footballer born 1925), Andy was injured. Bruce Stowell
Bruce Stowell (born 20 September 1941) is an English former football player and manager. Playing career Born in Bradford, Stowell began his career with Leeds United, before signing amateur forms with Bradford City in May 1958. He became a part-time professional in December 1958, and became fully professional in June 1967. Upon turning professional, Stowell became club captain at City. In October 1970, Stowell played in his 344th Football League game for City, breaking George Robinson's 55-year-old appearance record. Stowell made a total of 401 appearances for City in the Football League, and 437 games for them across all competitions. Stowell also played for Rotherham United, making 16 appearances in the Football League for them, before moving to Australia, where he played for Pan Hellenic and Blacktown City. John Hall (footballer, Born 1944)
John Franklin Hall (born 18 April 1944) is an English former professional footballer who is third in the list of Bradford City's players by appearance, after playing 430 games for the club. He was a right winger. Career Hall spent one season at Huddersfield Town before moving across West Yorkshire to join Bradford City on amateur forms in May 1961. A year later he became a full-time professional at Valley Parade. Over the next 13 years, he played 430 league games, 21 FA Cup games and 23 League Cup appearances for City as a right winger. Only Ces Podd and Ian Cooper have played more times for Bradford City. He made his name as a goal-scorer. Cyril Casey Marcel Podd (born 7 August 1952) is a former professional footballer who played as a right-back. An international for Saint Kitts and Nevis he spent his professional career in England. He was one of the first black players to establish themselves in English football. Club career A student at the Bradford College of Art, Podd made his professional debut in September 1970 for Bradford City. Over the next 14 years Podd made a total of 565 appearances for City in all competitions - a club record. Neville Southall (born 16 September 1958) is a Welsh former international footballer. He has been described as one of the best goalkeepers of his generation and won the FWA Footballer of the Year award in 1985. He joined Bury from Winsford United for a £6,000 fee in 1980, and turned professional in his early 20s after a number of years as a semi-professional and amateur player.
