First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. A significant omission of the ICC ruling was any attempt to define first-class cricket retrospectively. Audrish Banerjee
Audrish Banerjee (born 26 February 1975) is an Indian former cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and right-arm offbreak bowler who played for Bengal. He was born in Belurmath. Banerjee represented Bengal Under-19s during the Cooch Behar Trophy competitions of 1991-92 and 1992–93. During the 1992–93 season, he represented India Under-19s in three matches during the Coca-Cola International Youth Challenge. Banerjee made an Under-19 Test appearance during the 1992–93 season, against England, capturing the wickets of Michael Vaughan and Jason Kerr. Shute Banerjee
Sarobindu Nath "Shute" Banerjee (3 October 1911 – 14 October 1980) was a cricketer who represented India in one official and five unofficial Test matches. He was right-arm medium pace bowler and a lower order batsman. Cricketing career Banerjee made his debut in first class cricket at the age of nineteen and played for an "Indians and Anglo-Indians in Bengal" team against the touring MCC in 1933–34. He took 5 for 53 for a joint Bengal and Assam side against Jack Ryder's Australian team in 1935–36 following which he was selected for the third unofficial test against the same side (which made him miss the first ever Ranji Trophy match for Bengal) and the team to tour England in 1936. The presence of the fast bowlers Mohammad Nissar, Amar Singh and Jahangir Khan meant that Banerjee did not play in any of the Test matches. Sambaran Banerjee
Sambaran Banerjee (born 1 November 1953) is a cricket coach, a columnist, TV analyst and was an administrator in the Cricket Association of Bengal. In addition to it he was also the chief selector of Bengal Cricket Team. He resigned from the title of chief selector after the selection of Debang Gandhi as the chief selector on 3 December 2015. He was a former cricketer and led Bengal to the prolific Ranji Trophy win in 1990. Rabi Banerjee
Rabi Banerjee (4 March 1951 – 9 June 2021) was an Indian cricketer. He played ten first-class matches for Bengal between 1969 and 1975. Belur Math () is the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, founded by Swami Vivekananda, the chief disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa.
