Belgians ( nl, Belgen; french: Belges; german: Belgier) are people identified with the Kingdom of Belgium, a federal state in Western Europe. As Belgium is a multinational state, this connection may be residential, legal, historical, or cultural rather than ethnic. The majority of Belgians, however, belong to two distinct ethnic groups or ''communities'' ( nl, gemeenschap, links=no; french: communauté, links=no) native to the country, i.e. its historical regions: Flemings in Flanders, who speak Dutch; and Walloons in Wallonia, who speak French or Walloon. There is also a substantial Belgian diaspora, which has settled primarily in the United States, Canada, France, and the Netherlands. Robin François De Hert (20 September 1942 – 24 August 2020) was a Belgian film director. De Hert won the André Cavens Award for Best Film in 2000, with his film ''Lijmen/Het Been''. He died on 24 August 2020 at the age of 77 due to complications of diabetes. Anna Frijters
Anna Frijters (''nee'' Velders) (1889–1966) was a Belgian screenwriter, producer, director and author, known for two silent films '' Leentje van de zee'' (1928) and '' De verloofde uit Canada'' (1934) which she wrote, produced and directed with her husband François Frijters in the late 1920s. She was also known as one of the early female screenwriters, who played an important role in pioneering the development of scriptwriting in the Belgium film industry. Early life and career Before beginning their filmmaking careers, Anna and François Frijters were both diamond cutters in Antwerp and passionate about making their own films. Moving to the United States, they met with Ruth Roland, an American actress who starred in a number of silent films. Jacques Feyder
Jacques Feyder (; 21 July 1885 – 24 May 1948) was a Belgian actor, screenwriter and film director who worked principally in France, but also in the US, Britain and Germany. He was a director of silent films during the 1920s, and in the 1930s he became associated with the style of poetic realism in Cinema of France, French cinema. He adopted French nationality in 1928. Career Born Jacques Léon Louis Frédérix in Ixelles, Belgium, he was educated at the École régimentaire in Nivelles, and was destined for a military career. At age twenty-five however he moved to Paris where he pursued an interest in acting, first on stage and then in film, adopting the name Jacques Feyder. Bilall Fallah
Adil El Arbi (born June 30, 1988) and Bilall Fallah (born January 4, 1986) are Belgian film and television directors of Moroccan descent. The duo, collectively billed as Adil & Bilall, are known for writing and directing the feature films ''Image'' (2014), ''Black'' (2015), and ''Gangsta'' (2018), as well as directing ''Bad Boys for Life'' (2020), the third installment of the ''Bad Boys'' franchise starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. Frederik Du Chau (born 15 May 1965) is a Belgian film director, screenwriter and animator. Career Du Chau attended the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Ghent), Academy of Fine Arts in his hometown of Ghent, where he studied film and majored in animation under Raoul Servais. Pieter Dirkx (born 24 February 1984) is a Belgian film director and painter. His short film ''Bento Monogatari'' premiered in the Cinéfondation program at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. Dirkx was nominated for the Cinefondation Award at the same festival that year. He is also known for his production of The Geometry of Beetles (2009).
