Abdul Ghani Hazari
Abdul Ghani Hazari (12 January 1921 – 1976) was a Bangladeshi poet and journalist. He was awarded Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh in 1990. Education and career Hazari got his bachelor's in Philosophy from Calcutta University in 1944. He started his journalistic career in 1947 when he joined ''Alodan'', a weekly magazine published from Kolkata, as an editor. Kusumkumari Das
Kusumkumari Das (1875–1948) was a Bengali poet, writer and social activist. She is known as a poet and mother of Jibanananda Das, the eminent poet of modern Bengali literature and also served as the secretary of Barishal Women Society. Biography She was educated at Calcutta Bethune School. At the age of 19, she was married to Satyananda Das in 1894 and bore him two sons (Jibanananda Das and Ashokananda Das) and a daughter (Sucharita Das). She inherited the habit of writing from her father, Chandranath Das. Her father used to write light verses. She published poems in several magazines, among them were ''Mukul'', ''Brahmabadi'' and ''Pravasii''. She used to keep journals regularly. But most of them could not found because they were either lost or damaged by herself. Her famous poem is "Adarsha Chele", in English, "the Exemplary Boy" or "the Ideal Boy". Khondakar Ashraf Hossain
Khondakar Ashraf Hossain ( bn, খোন্দকার আশরাফ হোসেন; 4 January 1950 – 16 June 2013) was a leading postmodernist poet, essayist, translator, and editor from Bangladesh. He wrote more than eighteen titles. Early life and education Hossain was born in Joynagar village in Sarishabarhi, Jamalpur, Dhaka, East Bengal, in 1950. He earned a BA degree in 1970, and an MA degree in 1971, both are in English and from the University of Dhaka. After he got MAs in linguistics and ELT from the University of Leeds in 1981. He also obtained a PhD in English from the University of Dhaka and a postgraduate diploma in Teaching English Overseas from the University of Leeds in 1980. Kazi Nazrul Islam
Kazi Nazrul Islam ( bn, কাজী নজরুল ইসলাম, ; 24 May 1899 – 29 August 1976) was a Bengali poet, Bengali literature, writer, Bangladeshi music, musician, and is the national poet of Bangladesh. Nazrul is regarded as one of the greatest poets in Bengali literature. Popularly known as Nazrul, he produced a Complete Works of Kazi Nazrul Islam, large body of poetry, music, messages, novels, stories, etc. with themes that included equality, justice, anti-imperialism, humanity, rebellion against oppression and religious devotion. Nazrul's activism for political and social justice as well as writing a poem titled as "Bidrohī", meaning "the rebel" in Bengali, earned him the title of "Bidrohī Kôbi" (''Rebel Poet''). Jibanananda Das
Jibanananda Das () (17 February 1899 – 22 October 1954) was an Indian poet, writer, novelist and essayist in the Bengali language. Popularly called "Rupashi Banglar Kabi'' ('Poet of Beautiful Bengal'), Das is the most read poet after Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam in Bangladesh and West Bengal. While not particularly well recognised during his lifetime, today Das is acknowledged as one of the greatest poets in the Bengali language. Born in Barisal to a Vaidya-Brahmo Samaj, Brahmo family, Das studied English literature at Presidency College, Kolkata and earned his MA from Calcutta University. He had a troubling career and suffered financial hardship throughout his life. He taught at many colleges but was never granted tenure. He settled in Kolkata after the partition of India. Jasimuddin
Jasimuddin ( bn, জসীম উদ্‌দীন; 1 January 1903 – 13 March 1976), popularly called Palli Kabi (), was a Bengali poet, lyricist, composer and writer widely celebrated for his modern ballad sagas in the pastoral mode. Although his full name is Jasim Uddin Mollah, he is known as Jasim Uddin. His '' Nakshi Kanthar Math'' and '' Sojan Badiar Ghat'' are considered among the best lyrical poems in the Bengali language. He is the key figure for the revivals of pastoral literature in Bengal during the 20th century. Humayun Azad
Humayun Azad (born Humayun Kabir; 28 April 1947 – 12 August 2004) was a Bangladeshi poet, novelist, short-story writer, critic, linguist, columnist and professor of Dhaka University. He wrote more than sixty titles. He was awarded the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1986 for his contributions to Bengali linguistics. In 2012, the Government of Bangladesh honored him with Ekushey Padak posthumously for his contributions to Bengali literature. Hasan Hafizur Rahman
Hasan Hafizur Rahman (;1932–1983) became the editor of the ''Daily Bangla'' right after the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. He also worked for the government as a high official and edited an account of the independence struggle called ''The Liberation War of Bangladesh'', which was published in sixteen volumes. He was the author of thirteen books including eight collections of poetry and ''Adhunik Kobi O Kobita'' (''Modern Poets and Poetry''), a book of critical essays. Fazal Shahabuddin
Fazal Shahabuddin (4 February 1936 – 9 February 2014) was a Bangladeshi poet and journalist. He was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1973 and Ekushey Padak in 1988. Early life and career Shahabuddin was born in Dhaka in 1936. His poetry spanned four decades from the mid-60s until his death. He was the founding editor of ''Bichitra'', a weekly magazine, and he also worked at '' Shachitra Shandhani'' and ''Dainik Bangla ''Dainik Bangla'' is a Bengali-language daily newspaper in Bangladesh. Farrukh Ahmed
Syed Farrukh Ahmad ( bn, সৈয়দ ফররুখ আহমদ; 10 June 1918 – 19 October 1974), later simply known as Farrukh Ahmad, was a Bangladeshi poet and author. He is commonly known as the ''poet of the Muslim renaissance'', as many of his poems embody the spirit of resurrection in the hearts of the colonised Muslims of Bengal. Other than being a distinguished bearer of Islamic thought in modern Bengal, his poetry is also significant for its diction and literary value.
