List Of BSN Champions
The List of BSN champions are the champions of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) Championship Finals, which is the championship series for the BSN and the conclusion of the professional basketball's league tournament in Puerto Rico. Most Finals have been played in a Playoff format#Best-of-seven playoff, best-of-seven format. The winning team of the series receives the championship trophy. The Vaqueros de Bayamon lead the league for most championships won at 16. They are followed by two teams that have 14 titles; those teams are the Atléticos de San Germán and Leones de Ponce (basketball), Leones de Ponce. The latter three teams have won a combined 44 of 89 championships. Baloncesto Superior Nacional
The Baloncesto Superior Nacional, abbreviated as BSN, is the first-tier-level professional men's basketball list of basketball leagues, league in Puerto Rico. It was founded in 1929 and is organized by the Puerto Rican Basketball Federation. The Baloncesto Superior Nacional, which is played under FIBA rules of basketball, rules, currently consists of 12 teams, of which the most successful has been the Vaqueros de Bayamón with 16 titles as of 2022. The league has produced players that have distinguished themselves in the National Basketball Association, NBA, EuroLeague, Spain's Liga ACB, ACB, and other tournaments throughout the world. Among them, Georgie Torres was the first Puerto Rican to sign an NBA contract & Butch Lee was the first BSN player to win an NBA title. Piratas De Quebradillas
The Piratas de Quebradillas is a Puerto Rican basketball team, part of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional league. Founded in the mid 1920s, it is one of the original teams of the league. The club enjoyed its most successful era during the 1970s, when they won 4 championships including a three peat and participated in 6 league finals. However, after the 2004 season the team suffered from financial problems which prevented them from participating for the following five seasons. The club returned to active competition in 2009 with new players and a new arena as well as a trip to the league finals. The Piratas are known for their loyal fan-base and extremely loud home games. After 34 years in 2013 they won the BSN championship against the Leones de Ponce in the sixth game of the series. Polluelos De Aibonito
Polluelos de Aibonito was a Puerto Rican professional basketball team of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional based in Aibonito, Puerto Rico. They won their only national championship in 1986, defeating the 1985 champions Atleticos de San German, 4 games to 3, helped by stars Willie Meléndez, Angel Santiago, Rolando Frazer and Enrique Aponte, among others. They returned to the BSN finals in 1987 but lost, also in seven games, to the Titanes de Morovis. The Polluelos franchise folded in 2002 after facing financial trouble. Gallitos de Isabela is a professional basketball team based in Isabela, Puerto Rico. They play their home games at the José Abreu Coliseum. History In 1984, the Gallitos reached the BSN Finals, during that year known, due to a scandal concerning the eligibility of a Leones de Ponce player named David Ponce to play, as the "Copa Olimpica". The Indios de Canóvanas (lit. "Canóvanas Indians") was a BSN basketball team that was based in Canóvanas, Puerto Rico. The Gigantes de Carolina is a Puerto Rican professional basketball team in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional based in Carolina, Puerto Rico. After 12 years of inaction, they returned for the 2021 season. History They've participated in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) from 1971 to 2009; with breaks in 1994, '98, '99, '05, '06, and '10. They have made the BSN Finals three times in their history, 1979 (vs. the Piratas de Quebradillas), 1997 (vs. Atléticos de San Germán), and 2008 (vs. Capitanes de Arecibo), losing them all. Mets de Guaynabo is a Puerto Rican professional basketball team of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional based in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. The team dissolved in 2015, but was reinstated with new ownership in 2019. The team was founded in 1935 as the original Cangrejeros de Santurce based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, one of the first professional clubs in the San Juan Metropolitan Area. In 1976 the franchise relocated to the city of Guaynabo and was renamed as the Mets de Guaynabo. The Vaqueros de Bayamón are a Puerto Rican basketball team of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional based in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. The Vaqueros play their home games at Rubén Rodríguez Coliseum, a venue shared with the Liga de Voleibol Superior Femenino women's volleyball team Vaqueras de Bayamón. The Capitanes de Arecibo are a Puerto Rican professional basketball team based in Arecibo that competes in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) league. In 2010, the team also had the distinction to play in the Premier Basketball League (PBL) under the name Capitanes de Puerto Rico. The team began play in the league in 1946.
