Arizona Coyotes
The Arizona Coyotes are a professional ice hockey team based in the Phoenix metropolitan area. The Coyotes compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Central Division in the Western Conference and currently play at the Mullett Arena in Tempe. They first played at America West Arena (now Footprint Center) in downtown Phoenix from 1996 to 2003 and then played at Glendale's Gila River Arena (now Desert Diamond Arena) from 2003 to 2022. Founded on December 27, 1971, as the Winnipeg Jets of the World Hockey Association (WHA), they were one of four franchises absorbed into the NHL after the WHA had ceased operations, joining on June 22, 1979. The ''NHL on TNT'' is an American presentation of National Hockey League (NHL) games produced by Warner Bros. Discovery Sports (formerly known as Turner Sports), and televised on TNT in the United States. Charlie Simmer
Charles Robert Simmer (born March 20, 1954) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward, most notably for the Los Angeles Kings in the National Hockey League, who was known for his scoring prowess. Playing career After a junior career with the Soo Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey Association that saw him score 99 points in his only season ( 1973–74), Simmer was selected in the third round of the 1974 NHL amateur draft, 39th overall, by the California Golden Seals, where he joined a young field of players such as Larry Patey, Rick Hampton, George Pesut, Al McAdam and Stan Weir. He split his first three professional seasons between the Seals and the Salt Lake Golden Eagles of the CHL, having success in the minors but receiving limited playing time in the NHL. 2001–02 Phoenix Coyotes Season
The 2001–02 Phoenix Coyotes season was their sixth season in the National Hockey League, the franchise's 23rd season in the NHL and 30th overall. The Coyotes qualified for the playoffs after a one–year absence, but lost in the Western Conference Quarterfinals to the San Jose Sharks in five games. It was the Coyotes' final playoff berth for seven years. Off-season Defenseman Teppo Numminen was named captain. Regular season Final standings Playoffs The series started in San Jose. 1996–97 Phoenix Coyotes Season
The 1996–97 Phoenix Coyotes' season was the team's first season in the National Hockey League (NHL) since relocating from Winnipeg the season prior. The franchise's 25th season since its founding in 1972, and 18th season in the National Hockey League since 1979. Off-season Regular season The Winnipeg Jets team was sold to Phoenix businessmen Steven Gluckstern and Richard Burke, and in 1996, the club moved to Arizona and became the Phoenix Coyotes.
