Carlos Borcosque
Carlos Francisco Borcosque Sánchez (9 September 1894 – 5 September 1965) was a Chilean film director and screenwriter involved in the production of the Cinema of Argentina. Borcosque was born in Valparaíso. He established Estudios Cinematográficos Borcosque in Santiago in 1922 and directed several Chilean silent movies before he moved to Hollywood in 1926 where he worked as a consultant on Latin-based movies, and had a spell working for Paramount Pictures. Between 1922 and his death in 1965 Borcosque was responsible for directing and screenwriting mostly simultaneously some 45 different feature films including the 1951 film '' El alma de los niños''. He died in Buenos Aires. Catrano Catrani
Catrano M. Catrani (October 31, 1910 — December 19, 1974) was an Italian-Argentine film director and producer. Catrani was born in 1910 in Città di Castello, Umbria, Italy. He studied film at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome. He emigrated to Argentina in 1937 and settled in Buenos Aires, where he joined San Miguel Studios. He directed many short advertising films and documentaries, and in 1942 he completed his first major work, the comedy '' En el último piso'' with Zully Moreno as the lead. His first big success was ''Alto Paraná'', a ''costumbrista'' comedy screenwritten by novelist Velmiro Ayala Gauna, with Ubaldo Martínez in the lead role as Frutos Gómez, a sardonic and astute policeman. Mario Soffici
Mario Soffici (14 May 1900 – 10 May 1977) was an Argentine film director, actor and screenwriter of the classic era. Biography A native of Florence, Soffici moved to Argentina in the 1920s and began acting in 1931 and directing in 1935 on the film ''El Alma de Bandoneón'', working with popular actors of the period such as Libertad Lamarque in tango-based musical films. He directed some 40 films between 1935 and 1962, most notably ''Prisioneros de la tierra'' (1939) (often cited as one of the greatest in Argentine cinema), '' El Curandero'' (1955), '' El hombre que debía una muerte'' (1955) and '' Rosaura a las 10'' (1958). He directed and co-wrote with Eduardo Boneo and Francisco Madrid'' La cabalgata del circo,'' where Eva Duarte played a supporting role. He died in Buenos Aires in 1977. Román Viñoly Barreto (8 August 1914 – 20 August 1970) was a Uruguayan-Argentine film director. Biography Viñoly Barreto directed 28 feature films between 1947 and 1966 including ''The Black Vampire'', '' Paper Boats'', the 1954 film '' El Abuelo'' which starred Enrique Muino and Mecha Ortiz and Esta Es Mi Vida starring Miguel de Molina. His 1958 film ''Los dioses ajenos'' was entered into the 8th Berlin International Film Festival. Antonio Momplet (1899 – 10 August 1974) was a Spanish film director and screenwriter. He worked in Spain, France, Argentina and Mexico. Life and career Antonio Momplet was born in Cádiz, Andalusia. He worked as a journalist and translator of foreign films in Barcelona until 1927, when he moved to Paris and began to work for Gaumont. In the mid 1930s he moved back to Spain where he directed four feature films and founded the film journal ''Cine Art'', which quickly became influential. To avoid the Spanish Civil War, he moved to Argentina in 1937, and made eight feature films the following years. In 1943 he moved to Mexico to join the film industry there, and made a number of Mexican films both as director and writer for others, before he moved back to Buenos Aires in 1946. In 1952 he returned to Spain. During his final Spanish period he made films such as the Spaghetti Western parody ''Due contro tutti'', before he retired in 1964.
