Archibald Prize
The Archibald Prize is an Australian portraiture art prize for painting, generally seen as the most prestigious portrait prize in Australia. It was first awarded in 1921 after the receipt of a bequest from J. F. Archibald, J. F. Archibald, the editor of ''The Bulletin (Australian periodical), The Bulletin'' who died in 1919. It is administered by the trustees of the Art Gallery of New South Wales and awarded for "the best portrait, preferentially of some man or woman distinguished in Art, Letters, Science or Politics, painted by an artist resident in Australia during the twelve months preceding the date fixed by the trustees for sending in the pictures". The Archibald Prize has been awarded annually since 1921 (with two exceptions) and since July 2015 the prize has been Australian dollar, AU$100,000. 2nd Commando Regiment (Australia)
The 2nd Commando Regiment (2 Cdo Regt) is a special forces unit of the Australian Army and is part of Special Operations Command. The regiment was established on 19 June 2009 when the 4th Battalion RAR (Commando) was renamed. It is based at Holsworthy, New South Wales. The 2nd Commando Regiment trains and has served with coalition special forces units, and is highly regarded by these units. The regiment has been involved in operations in East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan, where it was used in a direct action warfighting role. It has also been involved in domestic security operations including the 2006 Commonwealth Games and the 2014 G20 Leaders Summit. The regiment is the Command's capability lead for strike and recovery. Angus McDonald (artist)
Angus McDonald (born 1961) is an Australian contemporary visual artist, refugee advocate, columnist, and documentary filmmaker. Early life and education Angus McDonald was born in Sydney in 1961. He earned an Economics degree at the University of Sydney, and later (1993–5) studied painting at the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney. He travelled to the small island of Leros, Greece and lived and painted there from 1996 to 1999. In 2000, he was accepted as a student at the Florence Academy of Fine Arts in Italy. Upon his return to Australia in 2001, he settled in the Lennox Head region in New South Wales. In 2003, he settled in Lennox Head itself. Art McDonald was a visual artist, mainly a painter (although he didn't use a paintbrush until he was 31), for around 25 years before he started making films, from around 2017. Rhys Lee is an Australian visual artist who lives in Aireys Inlet, Victoria, Australia. Coming from a background of street art, Rhys works in a range of media centring on painting with acrylics and oils. Rhys is represented by in a range of art collections that include the University of Queensland Art Museum. Boy & Bear are an Australian indie folk band formed in 2009, consisting of David Hosking (vocals and guitar), Killian Gavin (vocals and guitar), Tim Hart (drums and vocals), Jonathan Hart (vocals, banjo, mandolin and keyboards), and David Symes (bass). The band has released two EPs and four studio albums. The first two albums, '' Moonfire'' (August 2011) and '' Harlequin Dream'' (August 2013), reached the top ten of the Australian albums chart. Kimbra Lee Johnson (born 27 March 1990), known mononymously as Kimbra, is a New Zealand singer and songwriter. Known for mixing pop with R&B, jazz and rock musical elements, her accolades include four ARIA Music Awards, two Grammy Awards and seven New Zealand Music Awards. Her musical influences range from Prince and Minnie Riperton to Björk and Jeff Buckley. Kimbra's debut album, ''Vows'', was released in Australia in 2011. Vincent Fantauzzo
Vincent Fantauzzo (born 1977, Manchester, England), is a Melbourne-based Australian portrait artist known for his award winning portraits of Heath Ledger, Brandon Walters, Matt Moran, Emma Hack, Baz Luhrmann, Asher Keddie and his son Luca. He has won the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize twice, the Archibald Packing Room Prize, and the Archibald People's Choice Award four times. Career Fantauzzo was born in England in 1977 and spent his very early years in Manchester. His family migrated to Australia when he was a child. He has a Bachelor of Fine Art (Painting) (2003) and a Master of Fine Art (2005) from RMIT University, Melbourne. He has had solo exhibitions at Dianne Tanzer Gallery in Melbourne in 2007 and 2008 and in Mumbai India in 2007. David Fairbairn (artist)
David Fairbairn (born 1949), is an Australian painter and printmaker who was the winner of the Dobell Prize for Drawing in 1999. He has been selected as a Dobell Prize Finalist fifteen times, won the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize in 2002 and has been exhibited in the Archibald Prize eight times. Fairbairn teaches at the National Art School, Sydney. Personal life David Fairbairn was born in Zambia, Africa in 1949. Following his schooling he did an honours degree in Fine Art then earned a postgraduate scholarship to Royal Academy School of Art, London, attending from 1974-1977. He moved to Australia in 1979.
