Nur-eldeen (Nur) Masalha ( ar, نور مصالحة ''Nūr Maṣālḥa''; born 4 January 1957) is a Palestinian writer and academic. He is a historian of Palestine and formerly professor of religion and politics and director of the Centre for Religion and History and the Holy Land Research Project at St. Mary's University. He was also programme director of the MA in religion, Politics and Conflict Resolution at St Mary's University (2005–2015). He is currently member of the Centre for Palestine Studies, London Middle East Institute, School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. Ahmad Tibi
Ahmad Tibi ( ar, أحمد الطيبي, , he, אַחְמָד טִיבִּי, , sometimes spelled Ahmed Tibi; born 19 December 1958) is a Palestinian-Israeli politician. The leader of the Ta'al party, he has served as a member of the Knesset since 1999. Tibi was acknowledged as a figure in the Israeli-Palestinian arena after serving as a political advisor to the late Palestinian president Yasser Arafat (1993–1999). Tibi is also a trained physician and graduate of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem as a gynecologist. Early life and career Tibi was born in Tayibe, a town about 16 kilometres east of the Mediterranean coast north of Tel Aviv, in 1958. His father, Kamal Tibi, was born in Jaffa. Salah Tarif
Salah Tarif ( ar, صالح طريف, Ṣāliḥ Ṭarīf, he, סאלח טריף; born 9 February 1954) is a Druze Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset between 1992 and 2006. When appointed Minister without Portfolio by Ariel Sharon in 2001, he became Israel's first non-Jewish government minister. Biography Born in the Druze village of Julis, Tarif is the grandson of Sheikh Amin Tarif. Tarif served in the paratrooper and tank units of the IDF, before graduating from the University of Haifa with a BA. Whilst at university he served as deputy chairman of the student union. Tarif later became mayor of Julis, and chaired the board of Druze and Circassian mayors. A member of the Labor Party, he was on the Alignment list (largely composed of Labor Party members) for the 1988 Knesset elections. Wasil Taha
Wasil Taha ( ar, واصل طه, he, וואסל טאהה, born 24 April 1952) is an Israeli Arab politician and a former member of the Knesset for the Balad party. Biography Born in Kafr Kanna in 1952, Taha studied Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Haifa, receiving a BA. He was first elected to the Knesset in the 2003 elections on Balad's list and retained his seat in the 2006 elections. He caused controversy in July 2006 by stating that the abduction of IDF troops by Palestinian militants was a legitimate form of resistance. Hana Sweid
Hana Sweid ( ar, حنا سويد, he, חנא סוייד; also spelt Hanna Swaid, born 27 March 1955) is an Israeli Arab politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Hadash from 2006 to 2015. Early life Born to a Christian Arab family in Eilabun, Sweid studied Civil Engineering at the Technion, gaining a BSc and an MSc. Further studies led to him receiving a PhD in Civil Engineering and Urban Planning. After his studies he worked as an engineer and also lectured at the University of Reading in the United Kingdom from 1990 until 1993. He became a member of the National Council for Planning and Construction in 1995, leaving it in 2003, the year in which he became Director General of the Arab Center for Alternative Planning, a position he held until 2006. Sheikh Ibrahim Sarsur ( ar, ابراهيم صرصور, he, אִבְרָהִים צַרְצוּר; born 2 February 1959) is an Israeli Arab politician. A former leader of the United Arab List, he represented the party in the Knesset from 2006 to 2015. Biography Born in Kafr Qasim, Sarsur studied English literature and English linguistics at Bar-Ilan University during the 1970s. He became a member of Kafr Qasim council in 1989, serving on it until becoming the head of the southern faction of the Islamic Movement (considered more moderate than its northern counterpart) in 1999. Mohammed Miari
Mohammed Miari ( ar, محمد ميعاري; he, מוחמד מיעארי, born 12 April 1939) is an Israeli Arab former politician who headed the Progressive List for Peace during the 1980s and early 1990s. Biography Miari was born during the Mandate era in al-Birwa, a village which was depopulated as a result of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. He grew up in Makr and attended high school in Kafr Yasif, and was also a member of the Arab Youth Pioneer movement. He later studied law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and was certified as a lawyer. Whilst at university, he became active in Arab student politics. Nawaf Massalha
Nawaf Massalha ( ar, نواف مصالحة, he, נואף מסאלחה, 26 November 1943 – 26 October 2021, also spelt Nawaf Mazalha or Nawaf Masalha) was an Israeli Arab politician and a member of the Knesset. He became the first Muslim Arab to hold a ministerial position in the Israeli government when he was appointed Deputy Minister of Health by Yitzhak Rabin in 1992. Issam Makhoul ( ar, عصام مخول , he, עיסאם מח'ול; born 18 July 1952) is an Arab citizens of Israel, Israeli Arab politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Hadash between 1999 and 2006. As the Secretary General of Maki (current political party), Maki, and together with the Central Committee of the party, he directs all communist activities in Israel as well as being responsible for relationships with communist parties in other countries.
