List Of All-WCHA Hockey Teams
The All-WCHA Hockey Teams are composed of players at all positions from teams that are members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), an NCAA Division I hockey-only conference. Each year, from 1959–60 onward, at the conclusion of the WCHA regular season, the head coaches of each member team vote for players to be placed on each all-sir team. The First Team and Second Team have been named in each WCHA Hockey season with a Third Team added in 1995–96; a Rookie Team was added starting in 1990–91. The all-conference teams are composed of one goaltender, two defensemen, and three forwards. If a tie occurred for the final selection at any position, both players were included as part of the greater all-conference team; if a tie resulted in an increase in the number of superior all-stars, the inferior team would not be reduced in number (as happened in 1963–64). Western Collegiate Hockey Association
The Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) is a college athletic conference which operates in the Midwestern United States. It participates in the NCAA's Division I as a women's ice hockey-only conference. From 1951 to 1999, it operated as a men-only league, adding women's competition in the 1999–2000 season. It operated men's and women's leagues through the 2020–21 season; during this period, the men's WCHA expanded to include teams far removed from its traditional Midwestern base, with members in Alabama, Alaska, and Colorado at different times. The men's side of the league officially disbanded after seven members left to form the revived Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA); the WCHA remains in operation as a women-only league. Denver Pioneers Men's Ice Hockey
The Denver Pioneers men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents the University of Denver. The Pioneers are a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC). They play at Magness Arena in Denver, Colorado. The Pioneers are tied with Michigan for the most all-time NCAA National Hockey Championships with nine (1958, 1960, 1961, 1968, 1969, 2004, 2005, 2017, 2022). Previously, the Pioneers were members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), from its creation in 1959 to the end of its men's hockey competition in 2013. Forward (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, a forward is a player, and a position on the ice, whose primary responsibility is to score and assist goals. Generally, the forwards try to stay in three different lanes of the ice going from goal to goal. It is not mandatory, however, to stay in a lane. Staying in a lane aids in forming the common offensive strategy known as a triangle. One forward obtains the puck and then the forwards pass it between themselves making the goalie move side to side. This strategy opens up the net for scoring opportunities. This strategy allows for a constant flow of the play, attempting to maintain the control of play by one team in the offensive zone. The forwards can pass to the defence players playing at the blue line, thus freeing up the play and allowing either a shot from the point (blue line position where the defence stands) or a pass back to the offence. Tony Frasca
Anthony J. Frasca (1927–1999) was an American ice hockey player and coach for the varsity programs at Colorado College. He helped CC win its first national title in 1950. Career Player Tony Frasca began attending Colorado College in the fall of 1948, joining a team that had made the first NCAA tournament the year before. Frasca began playing with the Tigers after sitting out his freshman year (as was common) and for the third consecutive year Colorado College made the tournament. In the first game Frasca and Tigers knocked off defending champion Boston College 10–3, moving onto their first national title game. Against Boston University the Tigers got down early before rebounding in the second period to take a 3–1 lead into the third. Eddie Miller (ice Hockey)
Edward "Eddie" Miller was an American ice hockey Forward and Defenceman who was a member of the inaugural recruiting class at Denver. Career The son of Croatian immigrants, Miller was born in raised in Leetonia, Minnesota, now a part of Hibbing. After graduating from Hibbing High School he joined the navy and served for two years. After returning home he worked as a miner for two years before getting his chance at college hockey. Denver University began its ice hockey program in 1949 and Miller was in the first class of players to be invited to join the team. He didn't play on the varsity squad during his freshman season as the NCAA had rules stipulating that students were only permitted to play three year on any varsity team, but by the start of his sophomore year, Miller was with the big squad. Defenseman
Defence or defense (in American English) in ice hockey is a player position that is primarily responsible for preventing the opposing team from Goal (ice hockey), scoring. They are often referred to as defencemen, D, D-men or blueliners (the latter a reference to the blue line in ice hockey which represents the boundary of the offensive zone; defencemen generally position themselves along the line to keep the puck in the zone). In ice hockey, the goaltender (commonly referred to as the goalie) is the player responsible for preventing the hockey puck from entering their team's net, thus preventing the opposing team from scoring. Ken Kinsley
Kenneth Kinsley is a Canadian retired ice hockey goaltender who was the MOP of the 1952 NCAA Tournament for Colorado College. Career Kinsley began attending Colorado College a year after the program won its first National Championship and became the team's starting goaltender in his sophomore season. With many seniors on the squad being holdovers from the title team, Kinsley produced a tremendous season, helping CC win the inaugural MCHL championship with a record of 18–4–1. He was named to both the All- MCHL First Team and was an AHCA Second Team All-American for his efforts. Unfortunately, because Colorado College didn't keep goaltending records at the time, none of his individual statistics are precisely known. Michigan Tech Huskies Men's Ice Hockey
The Michigan Tech Huskies men's ice hockey team is an NCAA Division I college ice hockey program that represents Michigan Technological University. The Huskies are a member of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA). They play at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena in Houghton, Michigan. The North Dakota Fighting Hawks men's ice hockey team (UND) is the college ice hockey team at the Grand Forks campus of the University of North Dakota.
