List Of All-Hockey East Teams
The All-Hockey East Teams are composed of all players from teams that are members of Hockey East, an NCAA Division I hockey-only conference. Each year, from the 1984–85 season onward, at the conclusion of the Hockey East regular season, the head coaches of each team vote for players to be placed on each all-conference team. The First, Second, and Rookie Teams have been named in each ECAC Hockey season, except for 1985–86, in which no Rookie Team was named. The all-conference teams are composed of one goaltender, two defensemen, and three forwards. If a tie occurs for the final selection of any position, both players are included as part of the greater all-conference team. However, if a tie resulted in an increase in the number of superior all-stars, the inferior team would not be reduced in number, which happened in the 1985–86 and 2009–10 seasons. Hockey East
The Hockey East Association, also known as Hockey East, is a college ice hockey conference which operates entirely in New England. It participates in the NCAA's Division I as a hockey-only conference. Hockey East came into existence in 1984 for men's hockey when most of its current members split from what is today known as ECAC Hockey, after disagreements with the Ivy League members. The women's league, the WHEA, began play in 2002. On October 5, 2011, the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish (an ACC member outside football) announced they would be joining Hockey East as the conference's first non-New England school in 2013 after the CCHA folded. On March 22, 2016, Notre Dame subsequently announced their men's hockey team would leave Hockey East for the Big Ten Conference at the start of the 2017-2018 season. Defenseman
Defence or defense (in American English) in ice hockey is a player position that is primarily responsible for preventing the opposing team from Goal (ice hockey), scoring. They are often referred to as defencemen, D, D-men or blueliners (the latter a reference to the blue line in ice hockey which represents the boundary of the offensive zone; defencemen generally position themselves along the line to keep the puck in the zone). They were once called cover-point. In regular play, two defencemen complement three Forward (ice hockey), forwards and a goaltender on the ice. Jim Averill
James Averill is an American retired ice hockey defenseman who was an All-American for Northeastern. Career When he graduated from Wayland High School in 1981, Averill was already a local hockey star. He was a Dual County MVP and had made the All-scholastic team while being a three-sports standout for the Warriors. He began attending Northeastern University the following fall and joined the ice hockey team just in time for the program's surprising jump into the big time. Prior to the 1981–82 season, the Huskies had never won a playoff game and had no 20-win seasons in nearly 50 years of play. Averill's arrival coincided with the Huskies winning the east region and finishing second the 17-team ECAC Hockey. Providence Friars Men's Ice Hockey
The Providence Friars men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents Providence College. The Friars are a member of Hockey East. The skating Friars are currently coached by Nate Leaman has been the head coach of the skating Friars since 2011, leading them to a national championship in 2015. They play at the 3,030-seat Schneider Arena in Providence, Rhode Island. Goaltender
In ice hockey, the goaltender (commonly referred to as the goalie) is the player responsible for preventing the hockey puck from entering their team's net, thus preventing the opposing team from scoring. The goaltender mostly plays in or near the area in front of the net called the ''Ice hockey rink#Crease, goal crease'' (often referred to simply as '' the crease''). Goaltenders tend to stay at or beyond the top of the crease to cut down on the angle of shots. Chris Terreri
Christopher Arnold Terreri (born November 15, 1964) is an American professional ice hockey coach and former player. He was inducted as a charter member of the Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018. Playing career Terreri was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the fifth round (85th overall) of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. He attended Providence College from 1982 to 1986, and was the MVP of the 1985 Hockey East postseason tournament following a 2–1 double-overtime victory over top-seeded Boston College at the Providence Civic Center, and the MVP of the 1985 NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Championship, despite a 2–1 loss in the championship game to RPI at Joe Louis Arena. He is a two-time Stanley Cup Champion with New Jersey, having won his first title in 1995, and his second Cup in 2000. The 1984–85 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey season began in October 1984 and concluded with the 1985 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament's championship game on March 30, 1985 at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan. This was the 38th season in which an NCAA ice hockey championship was held and is the 91st year overall where an NCAA school fielded a team. Seven teams from ECAC Hockey left after the previous year to form a new conference, Hockey East. Connecticut Huskies Men's Ice Hockey
The UConn Huskies men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents the University of Connecticut. The Huskies are a member of Hockey East. The Huskies currently play at XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut; the team will move to the new on-campus UConn Hockey Arena starting with the 2023–24 season. History The Huskies men's ice hockey program began in 1960 under head coach John Chapman. UConn began NCAA competition at the NCAA Division III level in the ECAC East. Notre Dame Fighting Irish Men's Ice Hockey
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish men's ice hockey team is the college ice hockey team of the University of Notre Dame, competing at the NCAA Division I level as an associate member of the Big Ten Conference.
