The Pirus are an African-American street gang alliance founded in 1969 and based in Southern California. The Pirus comprise various sub-groups, known as "sets". These distinguish themselves by colors, clothing, operations, and political ideas. Some may be in direct conflict with each other. Originating in Compton, California, the alliance has spread throughout Los Angeles County and other areas of the United States. History In 1969, the Pirus were created by teenagers and young black men based in Compton, California. The term originally refers to Piru Street, a residential street in Compton and neighboring Willowbrook. The Decepticons were a Brooklyn street gang active from the late 1980s into the early 1990s. Originating as a bond of "brotherhood" and taking their name from the main antagonists of the ''Transformers'' franchise, the gang soon escalated into one of the most feared gangs of their time with their flash mob style attacks and muggings. Venice Shoreline Crips, or known as VSLC, is a Crips-based gang based out of Venice, Los Angeles, California. History The Venice Shoreline Crips formed in Venice's Oakwood neighborhood, which was originally labeled as a "servant's zone" by Venice founder Abbot Kinney and one of the few places within a mile of California's coastline where blacks could own property. Due to restrictive covenants that enforced racial segregation, Oakwood was set aside as a settlement area for blacks and the population increased rapidly as hundreds moved to Venice to work in the oil fields during the 1930s and 1940s. Into the 1950s, the City of Los Angeles had neglected Oakwood so much that it became known as "the ghetto by the sea" with unpaved narrow streets leading to run down bungalows, many of which lacked foundations. Rollin 60's Neighborhood Crips
The Rollin 60s Neighborhood Crips is a street gang based in Los Angeles, California, originally formed in Los Angeles in 1976 from the Westside Crips and having since spread to other cities in the United States. Membership is estimated to be around 1,600 people, making it one of the largest gangs in the Los Angeles area. According to a news outlet in 2004, Rollin' 60s was "the largest black criminal street gang in the City of Los Angeles". Members identify themselves by wearing the Seattle Mariners or Chicago White Sox logos and mark areas they are in with graffiti. Rollin 30s Harlem Crips is a street gang formed by Belizean American Crips who had moved from South Los Angeles to Belize and then Harlem, New York. History In 1961, a hurricane prompted the first major wave of immigration from British Honduras to South Los Angeles, which was already home to street gangs like the Crips and the Bloods. The Council (drug Syndicate)
The Council was an African-American organized crime syndicate in New York City that controlled the heroin trade in the Harlem area of the city during the 1970s. Formed by Nicky Barnes in 1972, the seven-man organization ran the heroin trade in Harlem, handled local criminal disputes, and solved other issues related to the drug trade. The Council was heavily connected to the Italian-American Mafia in New York City, where Matthew Madonna of the Lucchese crime family supplied the group with raw heroin, which was then diluted and distributed in Harlem. At its peak, Council-manufactured heroin began to be distributed across New York State, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, as far west as Arizona, and even into Canada.
