Michigan House Of Representatives
The Michigan House of Representatives is the lower house of the Michigan Legislature. There are 110 members, each of whom is elected from constituencies having approximately 77,000 to 91,000 residents, based on population figures from the 2010 U.S. Census. Its composition, powers and duties are established in Article IV of the Michigan Constitution. Members are elected in even-numbered years and take office at 12 p.m. (EST) on January 1 following the November general election. Concurrently with the Michigan Senate, the House first convenes on the second Wednesday in January, according to the state constitution. Each member is limited to serving three terms of two years. Anna "Annie" Simms Banks (1862–1923) was an American educator and political figure born in Brandenburg, Kentucky, Brandenburg, Kentucky. On March 3, 1920, Anna became the first African-American female elected as a delegate at the Kentucky's 7th congressional district, 7th Congressional District Republican Party (United States), Republican Convention in Kentucky, a time when women in Kentucky could vote for President but did not have full suffrage. Pearl Mae Bailey (March 29, 1918 – August 17, 1990) was an American actress, singer and author. After appearing in vaudeville, she made her Broadway debut in '' St. Louis Woman'' in 1946. She received a Special Tony Award for the title role in the all-black production of '' Hello, Dolly!'' in 1968. In 1986, she won a Daytime Emmy award for her performance as a fairy godmother in the ABC Afterschool Special ''Cindy Eller: A Modern Fairy Tale''. Edward William Brooke III (October 26, 1919 – January 3, 2015) was an American politician of the Republican Party, who represented Massachusetts in the United States Senate from 1967 until 1979. Alexander "Alex" Asberry (November 2, 1861 - abt. 1903) was a grocer, deacon, and politician who served one term in the Texas Legislature. He was born in Wilderville, Texas in 1861, the son of William and Julia Asberry. He was educated at Hearne Academy and worked in the grocery business.
