Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. Throwing the ball is not allowed, and players must not get caught holding the ball. 2009 AFL Season
The 2009 AFL season was the 113th season of the Australian Football League (AFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Australia, which was known as the Victorian Football League until 1989. The season featured sixteen clubs, ran from 26 March until 26 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top eight clubs. The premiership was won by the Geelong Football Club for the eighth time, after it defeated by twelve points in the 2009 AFL Grand Final. David Cockatoo-Collins (born 1 April 1978) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne in the Australian Football League (AFL). An Indigenous Australian, he is a younger brother of Che Cockatoo-Collins and twin brother of Don Cockatoo-Collins, both from Cairns, Queensland. He made two appearances for Melbourne, over three seasons. Kane Cornes
Kane Graham Cornes (born 5 January 1983) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Port Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Early life A product of Sacred Heart College and Glenelg in the SANFL, he made his AFL debut in 2001 after being selected with pick 20 in the 2000 AFL Draft. Before his professional football career he attended Sacred Heart College, which is one of the most prolific schools in Australia in terms of producing Australian footballers. His All Australian brother, Chad Cornes, also attended Sacred Heart College and played for Glenelg in the SANFL. Graham Cornes
Graham Studley Cornes Order of Australia, OAM (born 31 March 1948 in Melbourne, Victoria) is a former Australian rules footballer and coach, as well as a media personality. From 1995 until early 2013, Cornes co-hosted a weekday drivetime sports program that he hosts on Adelaide radio station FiveAA, 5AA, first with K. G. Cunningham, Ken "KG" Cunningham and, following Cunningham's retirement in 2008, with Stephen Rowe (footballer), Stephen Rowe. In 2012 he was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame. Cornes is also a Vietnam veteran, having served as an infantry soldier with the 7th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, 7th Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment in 1968. Jason Mooney (Australian Rules Footballer)
Jason Mooney (born 5 June 1973) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the Sydney and Geelong Football Clubs in the Australian Football League (AFL). Mooney made his debut for Sydney in 1992 and played mostly as a defender and in the ruck. He played an important part in Sydney's 1996 Finals campaign, kicking three goals in their six point Qualifying Final win over Hawthorn in the absence of star forward Tony Lockett. He was used as a centre half-forward in the 1996 Grand Final but finished on the losing team. In the 1998 AFL Draft he was traded to Geelong and kicked 33 goals in his debut season, finishing just one goal short of topping their goalkicking that year. Steven Motlop
Steven Motlop (born 12 March 1991) is a former professional Australian rules footballer for the Port Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL), having previously played for the Geelong Football Club from 2009 to 2017. Early life Motlop was selected by Geelong with the 39th pick in the 2008 AFL Draft. Had previously been playing with the Wanderers in the Northern Territory. He is the younger brother of North Melbourne premiership player Shannon Motlop and former North Melbourne and Port Adelaide forward Daniel Motlop, and the cousin of Port's Marlon Motlop. Daniel Motlop (born 16 March 1982) is an Indigenous Larrakia Australian rules footballer who played a total of 130 senior games for the North Melbourne Football Club and the Port Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Jeremy Clayton (born 9 February 1981) is a professional Australian rules footballer who played for the North Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League before enjoying great success in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) with the Port Adelaide Magpies, winning the Magarey Medal for the best and fairest in the SANFL in 2005. Jade Rawlings (born 9 October 1977) is a former Australian rules footballer who played in the AFL with the Hawthorn, Western Bulldogs and North Melbourne Football Clubs. He served as the caretaker coach of the Richmond Football Club for 11 games in 2009, and has served as the senior coach for Norwood in the SANFL since November 2020, becoming a premiership coach with the club in 2022.
