List Of AC Transit Routes
AC Transit is a public transit agency that operates 131 bus lines throughout the East Bay region of California. The agency also administers the Dumbarton Express lines, but operation of those lines was transferred to MV Transportation on December 19, 2011. AC Transit provides extensive local bus service to 17 cities in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties and the city of Milpitas in Santa Clara County. Transbay bus service is also provided to San Francisco and Palo Alto in Santa Clara County. Route summary AC Transit bus routes are arranged in seven categories (six numbered, one lettered). Since its inception in 1960, AC Transit has used both numbers and letters to distinguish routes. Bus Rapid Transit
Bus rapid transit (BRT), also called a busway or transitway, is a bus-based public transport system designed to have much more capacity, reliability and other quality features than a conventional bus system. Typically, a BRT system includes roadways that are dedicated to buses, and gives priority to buses at intersections where buses may interact with other traffic; alongside design features to reduce delays caused by passengers boarding or leaving buses, or paying fares. BRT aims to combine the capacity and speed of a light rail or metro system (LRT, HRT) with the flexibility, lower cost and simplicity of a bus system. West Oakland (BART Station)
West Oakland station is a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station serving the West Oakland neighborhood in Oakland, California, United States. It has two elevated side platforms, and is located near the eastern end of the Transbay Tube. All lines except the Richmond-Berryessa/North San José line stop at the station. The Oakland Wye is located to the east of the station. History The station opened on September 16, 1974 - the last station of the initial BART system to open - with the beginning of service through the Transbay Tube. The station was originally named Oakland West, contrary to the actual neighborhood name. The efforts of neighborhood activists led BART to correct the name to West Oakland, between 1986 and 1987. In June 2020, the BART Board of Directors approved a mixed-use transit oriented development project on the parking lots surrounding the station. Ashby (BART Station)
Ashby is a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station located beneath Adeline Street to the south of its intersection with Ashby Avenue in South Berkeley of Berkeley, California. The station includes park-and-ride facilities with 715 automobile parking spaces in two separate parking lots. History The station site is approximately at the historic location of Berkeley Branch Railroad's Newbury Station, which opened after 1876. The three stations in Berkeley were originally planned to be elevated, but the City of Berkeley paid extra tax to have them built underground. The station design was controversial because it was not fully underground; the west side of the mezzanine is level with the parking lot. Kensington is an unincorporated community and census designated place located in the Berkeley Hills, in the East Bay, part of the San Francisco Bay Area, in Contra Costa County, California. El Cerrito del Norte station (''North Hillock'' in Spanish) is a BART station located off Cutting Boulevard near San Pablo Avenue and Interstate 80 in El Cerrito, California.
