Associazione Calcio Firenze Fiorentina is an Italian professional football club based in Florence, Tuscany. The club was formed on 29 August 1926 by a merger of CS Firenze and PG Libertas as Associazione Calcio Firenze, and played its first competitive match on 3 October against Pisa. Renamed to Associazione Calcio Fiorentina in 1927, the club won their first piece of silverware, the 1939–40 Coppa Italia, in their first season following their promotion back to Serie A after a one-season stay in the second tier. Their first ''scudetto'' (league championship) was won in the 1955–56 season, losing only once in the 34-game season; this was followed by four consecutive second-place finishes. 1960–61 European Cup Winners' Cup
The 1960–61 season of the European Cup Winners' Cup club football tournament was won by Italian club Fiorentina in two-legged final victory against Rangers of Scotland. Organised by the Mitropa Cup committee, this tournament's edition was recognised by UEFA in 1963, after lobbying by the Italian Football Federation. This was the first season that the tournament took place for the winners of each European country's domestic cup, and was the only one to be decided in a two-legged final. Only ten sides entered the competition, partially due to the low expectations for the new tournament among association football fans, and also to the unofficial nature of this edition. The 2000–01 Coppa Italia was the 54th edition of the tournament. The tournament was won by ACF Fiorentina, Fiorentina, for their 6th title, also qualifying for the UEFA Cup in the progress. Coppa Italia
The ("Italy Cup") is an annual knockout cup competition in Italian football organized by the FIGC until the 2009–10 season and the Lega Serie A ever since. History The beginning of the tournament was turbulent, due to the complexity of the participation of the teams in the tournament, since its inception in 1921, the Italian championship was divided into two groups. On the one hand the CCI Championship (Italian Football Confederation) and on the other the FIGC championship ( Italian Football Federation). These two championships were not organized between them, so they could not manage the dates that allowed the normal course of the tournament.
