List Of ABA National Champions
The Australian Basketball Association (ABA) National Finals was the finals series of the ABA contested between the best teams from the affiliated conferences. The National Finals were held every year between 1981 and 2008 except for 2001, when the event was cancelled due to the collapse of Ansett Airlines. The ABA's roots can be traced back as far as 1965, and had a rich history until its demise in 2008. The ABA had a sole South/East conference from 1981 to 1985, then separate South and East conferences from 1986 to 1993. A South/East women's conference was introduced for the first time in 1990. In 1994, a North conference was included, which was followed by a Central conference in 1998, a Big V conference in 2000, and a Waratah conference in 2001. The Australian Basketball Association (ABA) was a semi-professional basketball entity based in Australia. The ABA was Australia's biggest basketball competition for many years. With over 120 teams participating across five leagues and six states, the ABA competition was the vital link between grass roots basketball in Australia and the elite NBL and WNBL leagues. The association provided a high standard of competition for local basketballers from across the country as well as an intense environment for professionals to use in their off seasons. Between 1965 and 2008, the ABA played an integral part in the development of Australian basketball with hundreds of former and active NBL and WNBL players honing their skills against world-class opposition. North-West Tasmania Thunder
The North-West Tasmania Thunder are an Australian basketball team based in Ulverstone, Tasmania. The Thunder compete in the Men's NBL1 South and play their home games at Ulverstone Sports & Leisure Centre. For sponsorship reasons, they are known as the St.LukesHealth North-West Thunder. Team history Established in 1986, the team missed the playoffs in their first eight seasons before seeing post-season action for the first time in 1994 under coach Phil Thomas. Back-to-back quarter-final appearances in 1994 and 1995 culminated in a CBA South Conference Championship for the North West Boag's Originals in 1996. Ballarat Rush
The Ballarat Rush are an Australian basketball team based in Ballarat, Victoria. The Rush compete in the Women's NBL1 South and play their home games at the Ballarat Sports Events Centre. The team is affiliated with Ballarat Basketball Association, the major administrative basketball organisation in the region. Team history Ballarat's top level women's basketball team was branded the Lady Miners since it entered the Victorian championship in 1984. It first joined the SEABL in 1990 and again in 2003. Over the following eight years, the team made the playoffs five times, winning the title in 2005. The Lady Miners were amalgamated with the Ballarat Miners in 2003 in order to be administered with the Miners under the one Ballarat Basketball Association. Erin Victoria Phillips (born 19 May 1985) is an Australian rules footballer for the Port Adelaide Football Club in the AFL Women's (AFLW) competition, a radio host, and a former professional basketball player. She played nine seasons in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) for five different teams and is a two-time WNBA champion. Kristi Harrower (born 4 March 1975) is an Australian professional basketball player, who three times (2000, 2004 and 2008) won the silver medal with the Australian Women's Team at the Summer Olympics, and also the bronze in 2012. Melbourne Sports Centres - MSAC is an international sporting venue located in Albert Park, Victoria, Australia. The centre was opened on 24 July 1997 at a construction cost of A$65 million. Jason Cameron (born 20 February 1974) is an Australian former professional basketball player who played nine seasons in the National Basketball League (NBL). Aaron Grabau
Aaron Grabau (born 8 February 1978) is an Australian former professional basketball player. He played 14 seasons for the Cairns Taipans of the National Basketball League (NBL). Grabau was born in Melbourne, Victoria. He made his NBL debut as an 18-year-old with the Geelong Supercats in the 1996 season. He joined the Cairns Taipans in 1999. Grabau retired in 2013 as the Taipans all-time leader in rebounds, steals and games played. His number 8 was retired by the team in 2019.
