Achaea
Achaea () or Achaia (), sometimes transliterated from Greek as Akhaia (, ''Akhaïa'' ), is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of Western Greece and is situated in the northwestern part of the Peloponnese peninsula. The capital is Patras which is the third largest city in Greece. Geography Achaea is bordered by Elis to the west and southwest, Arcadia to the south, and Corinthia to the east and southeast. The Gulf of Corinth lies to its northeast, and the Gulf of Patras to its northwest. The mountain Panachaiko (1926 m), though not the highest of Achaea, dominates the coastal area near Patras. Higher mountains are found in the south, such as Aroania (2341 m) and Erymanthos (2224 m). Other mountain ranges in Achaea are Skollis, Omplos, Kombovouni and Movri. Aigeira
Aigeira ( el, Αιγείρα) (, grc, Αἰγείρα or Αἴγειρα, la, Aegeira) is a town and a former municipality in northeastern Achaea, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it has been a municipal unit of the Aigialeia municipality, with an area of 103.646 km2. The municipal unit stretches from the Gulf of Corinth, where the town of Aigeira is located, to the mountains in the south. The town of Aigeira is southeast of Aigio, northwest of Corinth and east of Patras. The archaeological site of ancient Aigeira is located approximately 6km from the modern town. It is an important site for the Mycenaean and later periods, with particularly extensive remains from the Hellenistic period. It has been excavated since 1916 by archaeologists from the Austrian Archaeological Institute. Alpochori, Achaea
Alpochori (Greek: Αλποχώρι, also Αλεποχώρι ''Alepochori'') is a village and a community in southern Achaea, Greece. Alpochori is located on the northern slope of Mount Erymanthos, about 35 km south of Patras. In 2011 Alpochori had a population of 99 for the village and 236 for the community, which includes the village Agios Dimitrios. Population History The area followed the fate of the rest of Achaea. Between 1460 and 1821 the area was ruled by the Ottoman Turks, except a brief period of Venetian rule between 1687 and 1715. In the Venetian censuses of 1697 and 1699 the village was called Alpochori Trano (Αλποχώρι Τρανό) and had 111 inhabitants, in 1700, it had 38 families. Alpochori became Greek after the Greek War of Independence of 1821. Alpochori was part of the municipality of Erymanthia between 1835 and 1841, and of the municipality of Tritaia between 1841 and 1912. Alissos
Alissos ( el, Αλισσός) is a village and a community in the municipal unit of Dymi, Achaea, Dymi, Achaea, Greece. It is located near the Gulf of Patras, 3 km east of Kato Achaia, 3 km southwest of Kaminia, Achaea, Kaminia and 17 km southwest of Patras. The community consists of the villages Alissos, Kamenitsa, Paralia Alissou and Profitis Elissaios. The Greek National Road 9 (Patras - Pyrgos, Elis, Pyrgos) and the railway from Patras to Pyrgos run between Alissos and Paralia Alissou.
