List Of Power Stations In Massachusetts
This is a list of electricity-generating power stations in the U.S. state of Massachusetts, sortable by type and name. In 2021, Massachusetts had a total summer capacity of 13,002 MW through all of its power plants, and a net generation of 18,214 GWh. The corresponding electrical energy generation mix in 2021 was 76.9% natural gas, 9.2% solar, 5.5% biomass, 4.2% hydroelectric, 4.8% non-biogenic waste, 1.1% wind, and 0.4% petroleum. The state's last remaining nuclear power plant was retired in May 2019. Massachusetts consumes about twice as much electricity as it generates, but is among the lowest electricity consumption states on a per capita basis, as well as on a per dollar of GDP basis. Distributed small-scale solar, including customer-owned photovoltaic panels, delivered an additional net 2,529 GWh to the state's electricity grid in 2021. Electricity is not freely available in nature, so it must be "produced" (that is, transforming other forms of energy to electricity). Mystic Generating Station
The Mystic Generating Station is a power station in the state of Massachusetts (on the border between Everett and Boston) which has the highest nameplate capacity of any station in the state. It is capable of burning both natural gas and petroleum, but mostly burns natural gas. The plant currently consists of eight separate generating units; Mystic 8 and 9 are combined cycle natural gas units with a total of four combustion turbines and two steam turbines which can produce 1414 MW total, Mystic 7 is a natural gas or petroleum unit which produces 576 MW, and Mystic Jet is small petroleum fueled unit which produces 8.6 MW in periods of high demand. Necco (or NECCO ) was an American manufacturer of candy created in 1901 as the New England Confectionery Company through the merger of several small confectionery companies located in the Greater Boston area, with ancestral companies dating back to the 1840s. In May 2018, Necco was sold for $17.33 million to Round Hill Investments LLC, run by billionaire C. Dean Metropoulos; Round Hill Investments then went into a bankruptcy auction in May, 2018, with Spangler Candy Company being the winning bidder.
