Newspapers in Kuwait are published in English, French and Urdu, in addition to Arabic. the publishing reach the peak at 2009 there were 14 Arabic dailies, three English dailies and a dozens weekly newspapers in Kuwait. but the numbers decreased since then either by 2008 financial crisis and the increased of digital news sources or by government censorship. ''Arab Times'' is the first English-language newspaper published in independent Kuwait. History The ''Arab Times'' was started in 1977 by Dar Al-Seyassah as a weekly publication, and was soon transferred into a daily newspaper, playing a remarkable role in Kuwait and the Persian Gulf area. The paper is based in Al Shuwaikh. Its 2001 circulation was reported by the paper to be 48,000. The current editor-in-chief of the daily is Ahmed Al-Jarallah. ''Al-Watan'' (in Arabic الوطن meaning ''The Homeland'') was a Kuwaiti Arabic language daily published by the Al Watan publishing house. The editor in chief was Khalifa Al Ali Al Sabah, a member of the Kuwaiti ruling family, Al Sabah. The paper was in circulation between 1974 and 2015. History and profile The paper was launched in 1974. ''Al Watan'' was suspended by the Kuwaiti government on 30 August 1976. In April 2014, the paper and '' Alam Al Youm'' were temporarily closed down for two weeks by the Kuwaiti government due to the publication of a videotape showing former senior officials plotting a coup in Kuwait. In June 2014, both papers were shut down for five days because of the same reason. Sawt ( ar, صوت / ALA-LC: ''Ṣawt''; literally "voice"; also spelled sout or sowt) is a kind of popular music found in Kuwait and Bahrain. History It is said that sawt was established in Kuwait by the poet, composer, singer and oud player Abdallah al-Faraj (1836-1901/1903). The Bahraini historian Mubārak al-‘Ammārī believes that sawt was known in Kuwait before 1766, and in Bahrain since 1783. Saleh and Daoud Al-Kuwaity were widely considered among one of its earliest pioneers. Description ''Sawt'' is a complex form of urban music, originally performed by 'ud (plucked lute) and mirwas (a drum), with a violin later supplementing the arrangement.
