Lake
A lake is an area filled with water, localized in a basin, surrounded by land, and distinct from any river or other outlet that serves to feed or drain the lake. Lakes lie on land and are not part of the ocean, although, like the much larger oceans, they do form part of the Earth's water cycle. Lakes are distinct from lagoons, which are generally coastal parts of the ocean. Lakes are typically larger and deeper than ponds, which also lie on land, though there are no official or scientific definitions. Lakes can be contrasted with rivers or streams, which usually flow in a channel on land. Most lakes are fed and drained by rivers and streams. Natural lakes are generally found in mountainous areas, rift zones, and areas with ongoing glaciation. Avalanche Lake (New York)
Avalanche Lake is a mountain lake located in the Adirondack High Peaks in New York. Avalanche Lake sits at between Mount Colden and Avalanche Mountain. The two mountains rise in vertical cliffs from the surface of the lake. Immediately west of Avalanche Mountain (formerly known as Caribou Mountain) lies the MacIntyre Range: Algonquin Peak (the second highest mountain in the state), Boundary Peak, Iroquois Peak and Mount Marshall. Mount Marcy is to the east. Avalanche Lake feeds Lake Colden to the south, in the Hudson River watershed. To the north, the trail to the lake from the Adirondak Loj surmounts Avalanche Pass, which is only slightly above lake level but separates it from the Lake Champlain (St. Lawrence River) watershed. Brantingham Lake
Brantingham Lake is a lake, within the Adirondack Park, located east of Brantingham, New York in Lewis County, New York. Home to both seasonal and year-round residents, the lake and surrounding area offer boating, fishing, hunting, hiking, biking, as well as trails for all terrain vehicle, horse, and snowmobile. Despite its small population Brantingham is doing very well economically, with restaurants such as, Pine Tree Tavern, Trailside Inn, The Coachlight, and the Brantingham Inn and Motel, it is also home to an 18-hole golf course, Brantingham General Store, Brantingham Fire Department, and several camps. Blue Mountain Lake (New York Lake)
Blue Mountain Lake is a lake in Hamilton County, New York, in the central Adirondacks. Blue Mountain Lake is the eastern end of the Eckford chain of lakes. It is located west of Blue Mountain. The hamlet of Blue Mountain Lake lies on its southeastern shore and the Adirondack Museum looks down from high above its eastern shore. Black Lake (New York)
Black Lake is a lake in the northern part of New York in the United States and is the largest lake in Saint Lawrence County. The lake is south of the Saint Lawrence River and parallels the river for many miles. Black Lake is of glacial origin, having been formed by the melting of continental glaciation in the state around 12,000 years ago. Water flows into the lake from several sources, the largest being the Indian River. The lake drains into the Oswegatchie River and then into the Saint Lawrence River. Big Moose Lake
Big Moose Lake, at the head of the Moose River, is a large lake about north of Fourth Lake in the Adirondacks in upstate New York.
