Solomon Sibley
Solomon Sibley (October 7, 1769 – April 4, 1846) was an American politician and jurist in the Michigan Territory who became the first mayor of Detroit. Early life: 1769–1815 Sibley was born in Sutton, Massachusetts, the son of Ruth and Reuben Sibley. After completing preparatory studies, he graduated from the College of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations (now Brown University) at Providence in 1794. He studied law, was admitted to the Bar in 1795 and began a practice in Marietta, Ohio, which was then part of the Northwest Territory. He soon moved to Cincinnati and then moved again to Detroit, Michigan, in 1797, shortly after the British handed over the fort in 1796. When he arrived, Sibley was one of only two lawyers in Detroit. Being a pioneer lawyer was a physically challenging profession, often requiring long travel by horseback through wilderness over Indian trails in all types of weather to attend the territorial courts in Cincinnati, Marietta, or Chillicothe, Ohio. ... Isaac Marston
Isaac Marston (January 2, 1839 – October 31, 1891) was an American jurist and politician. Born in Poyntzpass, County Armagh, Ireland, Marston emigrated to the United States and worked on a farm in Pontiac, Michigan with an uncle. In 1861, he graduated from University of Michigan Law School and practiced law in Ithaca, Michigan. In 1872, Marston served in the Michigan House of Representatives. Then, in 1874, Marston served as Michigan Attorney General. From 1875 to 1883, Marston served on the Michigan Supreme Court and was chief justice. He then practiced law in Detroit, Michigan. James V (10 April 1512 – 14 December 1542) was King of Scotland from 9 September 1513 until his death in 1542. He was crowned on 21 September 1513 at the age of seventeen months. Abner Pratt (May 22, 1801 – March 27, 1863) was an American lawyer, politician, diplomat, and jurist. Born in Springfield, Otsego County, New York, Pratt studied law and was admitted to the New York bar. Pratt served as district attorney in Rochester, New York. In 1839, Pratt moved to Marshall, Michigan and continued to practice law. In 1844 and 1845, Pratt served in the Michigan State Senate. From 1850 until 1857, Pratt served on the Michigan Supreme Court and served as chief justice of the court. In 1857, President James Buchanan appointed Pratt consul to the Kingdom of Hawaii serving until 1862. Pratt returned to Marshall, Michigan and built his home Honolulu House. Warner Wing (September 19, 1805 – March 12, 1876) was an American jurist and legislator. Born in Marietta, Ohio, Wing moved with his family to Detroit, Michigan Territory, in 1817. Wing studied law at the Northampton Law School in Northampton, Massachusetts. He moved to Monroe, Michigan Territory, in 1828, and practiced law. Wing served in the Michigan House of Representatives in 1837 and then in the Michigan State Senate in 1838 and 1839. The F/V ''Charles W'', also known as Annie J Larsen, is a historic fishing schooner anchored in Petersburg, Alaska. At the time of its retirement in 2000, it was the oldest fishing vessel in the fishing fleet of Southeast Alaska, and the only known wooden fishing vessel in the entire state still in active service. Launched in 1907, she was first used in the halibut fisheries of Puget Sound and the Bering Sea as the ''Annie J Larsen''. In 1925 she was purchased by the Alaska Glacier Seafood Company, refitted for shrimp trawling, and renamed ''Charles W'' in honor of owner Karl Sifferman's father. The company was one of the pioneers of the local shrimp fishery, a business it began to phase out due to increasing competition in the 1970s.
