The Irish records in swimming are ratified by Irelands's governing body in swimming, Swim Ireland. Swim Ireland
Swim Ireland ( ga, Cumann Snámh Éireann) is the national governing body of swimming, diving, water polo, open water swimming and synchronised swimming in the island of Ireland (Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland). Competitors from Northern Ireland can opt to compete for British Swimming in international competitions, with the exception of the Commonwealth Games where they can compete for Northern Ireland. Swim Ireland is affiliated with LEN, FINA and the Olympic Council of Ireland. History Swim Ireland emerged in 1998 from the Irish Amateur Swimming Association (IASA), that was dissolved in January 1999 following proven sexual abuse and other scandals involving senior coaches. Shane Ryan (swimmer)
Shane Patrick Ryan (born 27 January 1994) is an American-born Swimming (sport), swimmer who competes internationally for Ireland. Career Ryan was a 16-time All-American and 11-time All-State honoree as a swimmer for Haverford Senior High School. He was a member of the US National Junior Team in 2010-11 and 2011-12. Ryan initially competed at the Swimming at the 2012 Summer Olympics – Qualification, US Olympics trials in 2012, finishing in 28th, which did not qualify him for the US team. He subsequently switched his allegiance to Ireland. Ryan qualified to compete in the Swimming at the 2016 Summer Olympics, 2016 Summer Olympics by swimming under the Olympic Qualifying time in the 100m backstroke at the Swim Ulster Dave McCullagh Meet in March 2016. 2010 European Aquatics Championships
The 2010 European Aquatics Championships were held from 4–15 August 2010 in Budapest and Balatonfüred, Hungary. It was the fourth time that the city of Budapest hosts this event after 1926, 1958 and 2006. Events in swimming, diving, synchronised swimming (synchro) and open water swimming were scheduled. The 2010 European Water Polo Championships was held separately, from 29 August – 11 September in Zagreb, Croatia.
