The Gippsland Football League (GFL) is an Australian rules football competition played in Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. History The Gippsland Football League was formed when the Northern Gippsland Football Association (NGFA) officially changed their name to "The Gippsland Football League" in 1921. The R. Frank Jensen Trophy, was initially awarded to the best and fairest player in the Gippsland Football League in 1927 and was named after the donor. Then T. Victor Trood donated the award from 1928 onwards. Trood, originally from Sale, was a former VFL player with University former Sale FC footballer and Sale FC delegate, who went onto become the GFL President (1933 & 1936 to 1938) and a life member. The Rodda Medal was initially awarded to the best and fairest winner in the Central Gippsland Football Association in 1936, after Morwell player, Fred Rodda suffered fatal injuries in a match in 1936. John Nix (Australian Footballer)
John Joseph Nix (born 25 December 1931) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Richmond in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Nix, a centreman recruited from Trafalgar, debuted at VFL level aged just 17. He made 95 league appearances for Richmond, between 1949 and 1956. His best season was in 1952, when he played in all of Richmond's 19 games and polled eight Brownlow Medal votes. At the end of the 1956 season, Nix was appointed playing coach of Latrobe Valley Football League side Sale. He won the league's best and fairest award in 1957 and also steered Sale to that year's premiership. Sale were premiers again in 1959, Nix's third and final season at the club. Jeff Gieschen
Jeff Gieschen (born 22 September 1956) is the former National Umpire Manager of the Australian Football League (AFL) and a former Australian rules football player and coach who played in the Victorian Football League (VFL) between 1974 and 1978 for the Footscray Football Club. He was the senior coach of AFL club Richmond from late 1997 until the end of the 1999 season. Peter Ronald Hall (born 27 May 1952) is an Australian retired politician. He was a National member of the Victorian Legislative Council from 1988 to 2014, representing Gippsland Province (1988–2006) and the Eastern Victoria Region (2006–2014). Early life and education Hall was born and raised in Castlemaine, Victoria. He graduated from Castlemaine High School in 1969 and moved to Melbourne to attend university. Barry John Rowlings (born 21 August 1950) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Hawthorn Football Club and the Richmond Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He is one of few players to have played in League premierships at two clubs. Terry Benton (born 13 July 1942) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Benton, a defender, played junior football at West Coburg, prior to joining North Melbourne. He played with North Melbourne for seven seasons and didn't miss a game in both 1966 and 1967. John Gallus (footballer)
John Gallus (born 30 September 1945) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Career Gallus, a ruckman and forward, first joined Melbourne in the early 1960s, from Drouin. In his first stint at the club, Gallus appeared in the VFL reserves competition, before leaving for Waverley, where he played in the 1966 VFA season, mostly as a centre half-forward. He was a member of the Waverley team which lost to Port Melbourne in the 1966 VFA Division 1 Grand Final. From 1967 to 1970, Gallus played in the Latrobe Valley Football League (LVFL), for Bairnsdale and Maffra. Don Keyter (13 September 1931 – 11 November 1986) was an Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL).
