Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible. 2007 Solheim Cup
The 2007 Solheim Cup was the tenth Solheim Cup, held 14–16 September at Halmstad GK in Halmstad, Sweden. It was a three-day contest for professional female golfers, pitting the 12 best players born in the United States against the 12 best players born in Europe. The U.S. team won the competition, 16 to 12, to retain the Solheim Cup. Format The Solheim Cup is a match play event, as opposed to the more common stroke play format. A total of 28 points are available, divided among four periods of team play, followed by one period of singles play. The first period, on Friday morning, consists of four rounds of foursomes. This is followed in the afternoon by four rounds of four-ball. This schedule is repeated on Saturday morning and afternoon. The four periods on Friday and Saturday account for 16 points. Tania Elósegui
Tania Elósegui Mayor (born 13 December 1981) is a professional golfer from Spain. Elósegui was born in San Sebastian, Spain. She started playing golf at age 9, and had a successful amateur career before turning professional. As an amateur, Elósegui would win a bronze medal at the 2002 World Amateur Championship in Malaysia. She would also win two gold medals in the European Team Championships and two in junior silver medal junior championships. She turned professional in 2005. After starting to play on the Ladies European Tour in 2005, Elósegui would not find much success until 2009. She collected one victory at the ABN AMRO Ladies Open and would finish in the top 10 in every event she played in, with her worst finish being 10th. With her consistent 2009 play, Elósegui earned a spot on the 2009 Solheim Cup European Team. Kitrina Douglas
Kitrina Douglas (born 6 September 1960) is an English ex- professional golfer who played on the Ladies European Tour. Douglas won the British Ladies Amateur in 1982 and played in the 1982 Great Britain & Ireland Curtis Cup team. She played professionally on the Ladies European Tour, where she won eight times and was a member of the 1992 European Solheim Cup team. Once her competitive career was over, Douglas became a BBC Sport Online golf columnist and in 2004 Douglas was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in achievement psychology of international women golfers from the University of Bristol. Florence Descampe
Florence Descampe (born 1 September 1969) is a veteran professional golfer from Brussels, Belgium who played on the United States-based LPGA Tour and the Ladies European Tour. Career Descampe had seven worldwide victories during her career including a win at the 1992 McCall's LPGA Classic on the LPGA Tour. Until Paula Creamer's win at the 2005 Evian Masters, she held the record as the LET's youngest winner after clinching the 1988 Danish Ladies Open. Descampe was a member of the 1992 European Solheim Cup team. Marie-Laure De Lorenzi
Marie-Laure de Lorenzi (born 21 January 1961, in Biarritz) is a French professional golfer. She is also known by her married name Marie-Laure Taya, and competed using that name until midway through 1989 when she reverted to her maiden name. De Lorenzi played for her country in the European Lady Junior's Team Championship, for players up to the age of 21, from she was 14 years old in 1975 until 1982 and was on the winning team in 1979. She also won individually in 1981. De Lorenzi joined the Ladies European Tour in 1987 and is now a life member of the tour, having accumulated 19 tournament victories on it. She played for Europe in the first Solheim Cup, which took place in 1990, and was also a member of the European team in 1996 and 1998. 2003 Solheim Cup
The 2003 Solheim Cup was the eighth Solheim Cup, held 12–14 September 2003 at Barsebäck Golf & Country Club in Loddekopinge, Skåne, Sweden. This was the first time the European team hosted outside of the United Kingdom. When Rosie Jones of the U.S. conceded a birdie putt to Catriona Matthew giving her a 3&1 win, Europe reached the 14 points required to win the Solheim Cup for the third time. With the overall competition's outcome decided, amid some controversy, four of the five remaining matches were conceded for a final score of 17 to 10. Dame Laura Jane Davies, (born 5 October 1963) is an English female professional golfer. She has achieved the status of her nation's most accomplished female golfer of modern times, being the first non-American to finish at the top of the LPGA money list as well as winning the Ladies European Tour (LET) Order of Merit a record seven times: in 1985, 1986, 1992, 1996, 1999, 2004 and 2006. As of 2018, Davies has 87 professional wins worldwide, with 20 on the LPGA Tour, including four majors. From 1985 to 2010, she won at least one individual title somewhere in the world every season, except for 2005, and was the first golfer, male or female, to win tournaments on five continents in one year. The 2017 Solheim Cup was the 15th edition of the Solheim Cup matches, held August 18–20 at the Des Moines Golf and Country Club in West Des Moines, Iowa. The Solheim Cup is a biennial team competition between the top women professional golfers from Europe and the United States.
