This is a list of drive-in theaters. A drive-in theater is a form of cinema structure consisting of a large outdoor movie screen, a projection booth, a concession stand, and a large parking area for automobiles. Carthage Route 66 Drive-in
Carthage was the capital city of Ancient Carthage, on the eastern side of the Lake of Tunis in what is now Tunisia. Carthage was one of the most important trading hubs of the Ancient Mediterranean and one of the most affluent cities of the classical world. The city developed from a Canaanite Phoenician colony into the capital of a Punic people, Punic empire which dominated large parts of the Southwest Mediterranean during the first millennium BC. Boulevard Drive-In Theater (Allentown, Pennsylvania)
The Boulevard Drive-In Theater is a closed drive-in theater, located in Allentown, Pennsylvania. It was one of two drive-in theaters in Allentown; the second one was Cinema Treasures. History Opened in 1949, the Boulevard was located on a 20-acre site in East Allentown, at 556 Union Boulevard, across the street from Western Electric. Like many Drive-Ins, the Boulevard was open from about April through the end of October of each year, being closed during the winter months. The theater opened about an hour before sunset each night, and normally showed two films on an average evening, the first being a first-run film, the second being either a "B" movie or a second-run film. The theater was located on a hill, with gravel over the natural turf for automobiles to park. Lexington is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. At the 2020 census, the population was 7,320. It is the county seat of Rockbridge County, although the two are separate jurisdictions. Hull's Drive In
Hull's Drive In is a 319-space drive-in theatre in Lexington, Virginia, one of the seven drive-in theatres still currently operating in Virginia. It is one of only two non-profit drive-in theaters in the United States, the other being Warner's in nearby Franklin, West Virginia. It shows current, family-friendly movies every weekend (Friday-Sunday) between March and October. History The theater opened on August 6, 1950, as the Lee Drive-In. Its owner was Mr. Waddey C. Watkins of Roanoke. In August 1957, Mr. Sebert Hull of Buena Vista assumed ownership. Mr. and Mrs. Hull ran the newly renamed Hull's Drive-In for the next four decades. When Mr. Hull died before the 1998 season, Mrs. Hull sold the business to Mr. W.D. Goad, whose auto body shop is adjacent to the drive-in on Route 11, north of Lexington. Stephens City ( ) is an incorporated town in the southern part of Frederick County, Virginia, United States, with a population of 1,829 at the time of the 2010 census. and an estimated population in 2018 of 2,041. The Family Drive-In Theatre is an outdoor cinema located at 5890 Valley Pike ( U.S. 11) one mile south of Stephens City, Virginia. The family-owned business opened in 1956 and is one of the state's few remaining drive-in theaters. History The Family Drive-In was built by William F. Dalke Jr. and opened on June 14, 1956. It was one of eight drive-in theaters within a radius at the time of its construction. The number of drive-in theaters in the United States peaked at around 4,000 in 1958 while in 2013, an estimated 360 still remained. Dalke Jr. had previously owned indoor theaters until opening Family Drive-In.
