'' Coronation Street'' is a British soap opera first broadcast on 9 December 1960. The following is a list of characters introduced in 2017, by order of first appearance. All characters are introduced by series producer Kate Oates. The first notable character that appeared was the stillborn son of Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) and Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson), Ruairi, in January. Chloe Tipton ( Jo-Anne Knowles) first appeared in February as a love interest for Peter Barlow ( Chris Gascoyne) and left the series in May. She was followed by Trina Robson (Kerry Bennett), a drug dealer, who appeared in four episodes. The final character to join in February was Oliver Battersby, Steve and Leanne Battersby's (Jane Danson) baby son. ''Coronation Street'' is an English soap opera created by Granada Television and shown on ITV since 9 December 1960. The programme centres around a cobbled, terraced street in Weatherfield, a fictional town based on inner-city Salford. Originally broadcast twice weekly, the series began airing six times a week in 2017. The programme was conceived by scriptwriter Tony Warren. Warren's initial proposal was rejected by the station's founder Sidney Bernstein, but he was persuaded by producer Harry Elton to produce the programme for 13 pilot episodes, and the show has since become a significant part of English culture. Ben Cartwright (actor)
Ben Cartwright (born 17 June 1976) is a British actor who has made guest appearances on some of Britain's most popular television shows. He appeared in ''Judge John Deed'' in 2001, playing Paul Bailey. He also had a small part in ''EastEnders'' in 2003, playing Tony Jamison. He played Heath Gambol in ''Casualty'' in 2005. Nicola Thorp, also known as Nicola Sian, (born 30 September 1988) is an English actress, columnist and activist. She is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Nicola Rubinstein in ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street''. Early life Thorp was born in Blackpool, and attended Arnold School, where she was deputy head girl, before studying acting at the Arts Educational Schools of Acting in London between 2007 and 2010. Connor McIntyre
Connor McIntyre (born 30 November 1960) is an English actor, best known for playing Pat Phelan in the ITV soap opera, ''Coronation Street'' from 2013 to 2014 and again from 2016 to 2018, but has also had large roles in TV shows such as ''Always and Everyone'', '' The Jury'', '' Buried'', ''Murder City'', '' Outlaws'', '' Drop Dead Gorgeous'' and '' The Case''. Pat Phelan (Coronation Street)
Patrick James "Pat" Phelan is a fictional character from the British soap opera ''Coronation Street'', portrayed by Connor McIntyre. He made his first appearance during the episode broadcast on 2 October 2013. The character was introduced as an acquaintance of builder Owen Armstrong ( Ian Puleston-Davies), who he soon goes into business with as part of a revenge plot. Phelan blackmails both Owen and Gary Windass (Mikey North) into working for him for free, after Gary attacks him for making sexual advances towards his mother and Owen's girlfriend, Anna Windass (Debbie Rush). The character's first stint culminates in Phelan coercing Anna to have sex with him in exchange for relinquishing his torment of Gary and Owen. He departed on 14 April 2014.
