List Of Bus Routes In The Wellington Region
This is a list of Greater Wellington Regional Council contracted bus routes in the Wellington Region, operated under the banner of the Metlink public transport network, as well as commercially operated commuter services. There are approximately 100 bus routes in total across the region. Route numbers Route numbers are generally classified by area: routes 1-29 are Wellington City routes, 30-39 are express and peak-only routes, 50-59 and 60 are Newlands routes, 80-99 are commercial routes, 110-119 are Upper Hutt City routes, 120-199 are Lower Hutt City routes, 200-209 are Wairarapa routes, 220-239 are Porirua City routes, 250-299 are Kāpiti Coast routes, and 300-999 are school bus routes or other special routes. From July 2018, many Wellington City routes were shortened to connect with high-frequency spine routes at bus hubs, but extend to the city centre at peak times. Greater Wellington Regional Council
Wellington Regional Council, branded as Greater Wellington Regional Council, is the regional council overseeing the Wellington Region of New Zealand's lower North Island. It is responsible for public transport under the brand Metlink, environmental and flood protection, and the region's water supply. The Wellington Regional Council was first formed in 1980 from the amalgamation of the functions of the Wellington Regional Planning Authority with those of the Wellington Regional Water Board, before taking its current form with the local government reforms of 1989. A proposal made in 2013 that nine territorial authorities amalgamate to form a single supercity met substantial local opposition and was abandoned in June 2015. Island Bay
Island Bay is a coastal suburb of Wellington, the capital of New Zealand, situated south of the city centre. Island Bay lies on the bay which shares its name, one of numerous small bays off Cook Strait and west of Lyall Bay. 500m offshore in Island Bay lies Tapu Te Ranga Island, which forms a natural breakwater and provides a sheltered anchorage for local fishing boats. Noted current Island Bay residents include Minister of Justice Andrew Little MP, and Celia Wade-Brown, former Mayor of Wellington. Northland, Wellington
Northland is an affluent suburb in west-central Wellington, New Zealand. Not far from Victoria University it also includes low-priced accommodation popular with young students. It borders the suburbs of Highbury, Kelburn, Thorndon, Wilton, Wadestown and Karori. Northland is populated by a mix of university students, young professionals and families. Part of the area was known as Creswick until the late 19th century when new roads and building sites were developed by the landowner, C J Pharazyn, who marketed the whole area as Northland. At that time it was described in the now defunct Evening Post as "Wellington's best suburb". Location Northland lies to the west of Kelburn separated by a steep gully. Strathmore Park
Strathmore Park is a suburb of Wellington City, New Zealand. It is located at the southern end of the Miramar Peninsula to the south of the suburb of Miramar, and due east of the airport. A hill suburb, it overlooks Lyall Bay (which lies to the west), Evans Bay (to the North) and several bays along the Seatoun coast close to the mouth of Wellington Harbour, which lies to the east. Strathmore Park is noted for several areas of open land, including the Beacon Hill Reserve and Miramar Golf Course. The southern end of the suburb is dominated by Atatürk Park, which is located high above Tarakena Bay. The site was chosen for its similarity to the landscape of Gallipoli, and was erected as part of a joint agreement with the Turkish and Australian governments in mutual respect of the men of both sides who lost their lives in the Gallipoli Campaign of World War I. Kingston, Wellington
Kingston is a southern suburb of Wellington, New Zealand, south of Brooklyn and Mornington. The suburb was developed in the 1960s, when there was more "cut and fill" earthworks in new subdivisions to provide flat sections. In 2013 and 2017 there were slips of unstable land, and a Wellington City Council spokesman blamed the "cut and fill" for the slips, though after a previous slip some local residents suggested that broken or faulty water mains or stormwater drains could be responsible. In 2014 a "slip-prone" Kingston house was demolished. A lot of streets in Kingston have names associated with Canada, such as Vancouver Street and Caribou Place. Between 2017 and 2021 the median house sale price in Kingston increased from $772,000 to $1,080,000. As of 2021, the Kingston shops consist of a dairy, a fish and chip shop and a mechanic. Brooklyn is a suburb of Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. Geography Location Brooklyn is 3 km south of Wellington's central business district on the eastern slopes of the hills above Happy Valley. Lyall Bay
Lyall Bay is a bay and suburb on the south side of the Rongotai isthmus in Wellington, New Zealand. The bay is a popular surf beach, featuring a breakwater at the eastern end. It is home to two surf lifesaving clubs and has also been the site of surf lifesaving championships. Lyall Bay is a very popular and safe swimming beach. The beach is only two thirds of its original size: the construction of Wellington International Airport took away the eastern third of the beach. The suburb consists of most of the southern half of the Rongotai isthmus, although Wellington International Airport and a small industrial area next to it are often considered to be part of Rongotai. Lyall Bay is predominantly a residential area, but also contains a part of Wellington's Southern Walkway and the Southern Headlands Reserve.
