Lisburn–Antrim Line
The Lisburn–Antrim line is a railway line of Northern Ireland Railways. It links Knockmore railway station, Knockmore Junction on the Belfast–Newry line with on the Belfast–Derry line. It has been closed to passenger services since 2003. History The line opened in 1871 as the Dublin and Antrim Junction Railway. The train service on the line was provided by the Ulster Railway until 1876, and by the Ulster Railway's successor the Great Northern Railway (Ireland), Great Northern Railway thereafter.Hajducki, 1974, page xiii In 1879 the D&A Junction ceased to be a separate company and was absorbed by the GNR. Ballinderry Railway Station
Ballinderry railway station served Upper Ballinderry in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is currently closed to passengers. The station was built for the Dublin and Antrim Junction Railway and opened on 13 November 1871. Translink withdrew passenger services from the line when it reopened the more direct – route ''via'' . Translink (Northern Ireland)
Translink is the brand name of the Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company (NITHCo), a public corporation in Northern Ireland which provides the public transport in the region. NI Railways, Ulsterbus and Metro are all part of Translink. It is led by CEO Chris Conway. Railway Signalling
Railway signalling (), also called railroad signaling (), is a system used to control the movement of railway traffic. Trains move on fixed rails, making them uniquely susceptible to collision. This susceptibility is exacerbated by the enormous weight and inertia of a train, which makes it difficult to quickly stop when encountering an obstacle. Lisburn West Railway Station
Lisburn West is a proposed railway station planned for the Knockmore area of Lisburn, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Originally proposed in 2014, early plans suggested that it would serve the Belfast–Newry railway line between Lisburn railway station, Lisburn and Moira railway station, Moira. After Translink (Northern Ireland), Translink bought and demolished buildings on a former South Eastern Regional College site outside Lisburn, the company reportedly stated that station development works would commence "between late 2015 and early 2016". South Eastern Regional College
South Eastern Regional College (SERC) is a further and higher education college in the south-east of Northern Ireland. SERC was created following the merger of three institutes of further and higher education in the south-east of Northern Ireland. These were East Down Institute, Lisburn Institute and North Down and Ards Institute. The merger took effect from August 2007. Passing Loop
A passing loop (UK usage) or passing siding (North America) (also called a crossing loop, crossing place, refuge loop or, colloquially, a hole) is a place on a single line railway or tramway, often located at or near a station, where trains or trams travelling in opposite directions can pass each other. Trains/trams going in the same direction can also overtake, provided that the signalling arrangement allows it. A passing loop is double-ended and connected to the main track at both ends, though a dead end siding known as a refuge siding, which is much less convenient, can be used. A similar arrangement is used on the gauntlet track of cable railways and funiculars, and in passing places on single-track roads. Ideally, the loop should be longer than all trains needing to cross at that point. Aldergrove, County Antrim
Aldergrove is a hamlet and townland sub-division in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is within the townland of Seacash and parish of Killead – south of Antrim and west of Belfast. It is part of the Borough of Antrim and Newtownabbey. The name Aldergrove is more commonly used to describe the major airfield to the north east of the hamlet. Belfast International Airport
Belfast International Airport is an airport northwest of Belfast in Northern Ireland, is the main airport for the city of Belfast. Until 1983, it was known as ''Aldergrove Airport'', after the nearby village of Aldergrove. In 2018, over 6.2 million passengers travelled through the airport, a 7.4% increase compared with 2017.
