The Lisbon Council is a Brussels-based think tank that focuses on matters of innovation and European competitiveness. As of 2021, its President is Paul Hofheinz. Background and activity The Lisbon Council was founded in 2003 by Paul Hofheinz and . Its name refers to the Lisbon Strategy, adopted by the European Union in 2000 and aiming to make the EU "the most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy in the world capable of sustainable economic growth with more and better jobs and greater social cohesion" by 2010. A think tank, or policy institute, is a research institute that performs research and advocacy concerning topics such as social policy, political strategy, economics, military, technology, and culture. Lisbon Strategy
The Lisbon Strategy, also known as the Lisbon Agenda or Lisbon Process, was an action and development plan devised in 2000, for the economy of the European Union between 2000 and 2010. A pivotal role in its formulation was played by the Portuguese economist Maria João Rodrigues. Its aim was to make the EU "the most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy in the world capable of sustainable economic growth with more and better jobs and greater social cohesion", by 2010. It was set out by the European Council in Lisbon in March 2000. By 2010, most of its goals were not achieved. It has been succeeded by the Europe 2020 strategy. Eurofi is a Paris-based nonprofit association that organizes non-public gatherings on European economic and financial policy.
