Lisa Hanawalt
Lisa Hanawalt (born June 19, 1983) is an American illustrator, writer, and cartoonist. She has published comic series, as well as three books of illustrations. She worked as the production designer and a producer of the Netflix animated series ''BoJack Horseman'' (2014–2020), and co-hosts the podcast ''Baby Geniuses'' (2012–present) with comedian Emily Heller. She created and executive produced the Adult Swim animated series, ''Tuca & Bertie'' (2019–2022). Life and career Early life Hanawalt was born in Palo Alto, California to Stanford biologists Philip Hanawalt and Graciela Spivak. Small Press Expo
The Small Press Expo (SPX) is an American alternative comics convention. A registered 501(c)(3) that was created in 1994, every year since its inception, SPX has put on a festival, known as The Expo, that provides a forum for artists, writers and publishers of comic art in its various forms to present their creations to the public and to expose the public to comic art not normally accessible through normal commercial channels. The annual SPX festival is typically held in the fall in Bethesda, Maryland. SPX is unique amongst the various comic conventions as it does not allow retailers to have a formal presence at the convention. Only creators and publishers are allowed to set up at the festival, although retailers can and do attend the show with the general public through paid admissions. Domitille Collardey
Domitille Collardey (born 1981) is a French cartoonist and comic book designer. She is best known for her founding the Chicou-Chicou comics collective with Aude Picault. She lives in Paris and Brooklyn, NY. She is a former member of the cartoonist studio, Pizza Island, where she worked alongside cartoonists including Kate Beaton, Lisa Hanawalt, and Meredith Gran. Education Domitille graduated from les Arts Decoratifs de Paris in 2004. Comics Domitille founded and participated in the project Chicou-Chicou with Aude Picault, Lisa Mandel, Boulet and Erwann Surcouf for three years. A 485-page compilation of the artists' work was published by French publisher Delcourt in November 2008, in the Lewis Trondheim imprint Shampooing. Raphael Matthew Bob-Waksberg (born August 17, 1984) is an American comedian, writer, producer, actor, and voice actor. He is known as the creator and showrunner of the Netflix animated comedy series ''BoJack Horseman'' and the Amazon Prime Video animated series '' Undone''. Rosalind Chast (born November 26, 1954) is an American cartoonist and a staff cartoonist for ''The New Yorker''. Since 1978, she has published more than 800 cartoons in ''The New Yorker''. She also publishes cartoons in ''Scientific American'' and the ''Harvard Business Review''. In recognition of her work, Comics Alliance listed Chast as one of twelve women cartoonists deserving of lifetime achievement recognition. McSweeney's Publishing is an American non-profit publishing house founded by Dave Eggers in 1998 and headquartered in San Francisco. Initially publishing the literary journal'' Timothy McSweeney's Quarterly Concern'', the company has moved to novels, books of poetry, and other periodicals. Company history Since 2002 Advanced Marketing Services had been the parent company of McSweeney's distributor Publishers Group West (PGW), but in 2006 they declared bankruptcy. At the time of the filing, PGW owed McSweeney's about $600,000. The Ignatz Awards recognize outstanding achievements in comics and cartooning by small press creators or creator-owned projects published by larger publishers. They have been awarded each year at the Small Press Expo since 1997, only skipping a year in 2001 due to the show's cancellation after the September 11 attacks. SPX has been held in either Bethesda, North Bethesda, or Silver Spring, Maryland. Buenaventura Press was a publisher and distributor for comics, prints, anthologies and graphic novels based in Oakland, California, run by Alvin Buenaventura. Publishing history Buenaventura Press originally specialized in handcrafted fine press prints, producing works for Gary Panter, Daniel Clowes, Julie Doucet, Chris Ware and others, before it extended its operations to publishing works in various book formats. The company closed in January 2010, in many ways because of the costs involved in publishing ''Kramers Ergot'' #7 (which appeared in 2008 at a retail price of $125). ''The Hairpin'' was a women's website in The Awl network. It was founded in 2010 by Edith Zimmerman. It ceased publication at the end of January 2018. From 2013 to 2014, ''The Hairpin'' was edited by Emma Carmichael, with Jia Tolentino as contributing editor. Haley Mlotek was editor at ''The Hairpin'' from 2014 to 2015, with Jazmine Hughes as contributing editor, followed by Alexandra Molotkow.
